Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

When I was down to one molting hen and was forced to actually buy eggs... that is when I decided that I need more chickens. I set out to get 2 more and ended up with 3.

I was getting 2-3 eggs a day from the 3 layers, but now with the lack of light... I get about 3 a week. Oh well...

You know the cure for that is to get even more chickens.

Nice eggs! I think Cole is a good name for the rooster. That was the first thing that came to my mind.

lazy lazy day up here, no new pics... but the gang was happy with tons of treats... I saved the cereal garland for another day when I have the umph to take pics...

wow those chicks are cuties! I'm sorry you didn't get all the #'s you were hoping for, but really it was a decent hatch rate... I don't have any advice unfortunately... because Peach didn't let me in on her secrets... I staunchly refuse to buy an incubator. I'd be overrun... but I can't wait til she resumes laying and decides to sit to hatch!

I like the name Blueberry. but all my pets last name is de Blueberry... so... there you have it.

god i have 29 hens and this week end we only got 11 eggs, last week we got 23 to 25 never have i got 29.

No eggs at all, yet.

But, the pipe is fixed and reburied. I hurt in places I didn't even know I had. Dogs are stir crazy because they missed flyball practice due to repair plans, and walkies due to owner hasn't got it in her right now. I woke up with a tennisball and a border collie in my lap.

I so owe my neighbor. I dug the pipe up, but he figured out how to fix it and fixed it for me. It was hard. The pipe is a metal one older than me, and corroded. The clamps wouldn't clamp down tight enough. Finally, he used a pvc compression joint and ground the corrosion off the pipe. It worked. I waited several hours before I reburied it. I want to do something for them because I took away their father/husband for several hours this weekend. All I can think of is gift card to cold stone creamery. I thought about movie, or gift card to a nice dinner place, but these are teensy kids and it would be kind of tortuous. I don't know if they drink, so nice bottle of wine or beer is out. Kids like ice cream, though, and so that is what I will do. It feels inadequate. If my blasted chickens ever lay, they can have any eggs they want!

and that she is! Betty is a better layer, not a drama queen... but Wilma is my "Roger"... I can discern her vocalizations from behind closed doors... I was shocked to hear her by the nesting box and even more overwhelmed when I opened the lid and found her sitting!

Whoops, if ice cream is the thing, how about a big Sundae party? you could get a bunch of goodies to go with different flavors of ice cream to make it special - sauces, sprinkles, candies... when my neighbors have helped me out, my return has always been food. whether I made a big vat of something, or ordered a few pizzas... it would be fun to make a party for everyone as a thanks. you are very fortunate to have wonderful neighbors!
