Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I suspend all food and water from the roof of the coop with chains. I keep them so they are about 2 inches below my shortest chickens head. They can't kick dirt or bedding into them and if they hit them they just swing back and forth. Also keeps them from scratching the food out of the feeders. In the winter my water heaters are made so the water sits on top of them and the bucket is full of concrete with a light bulb in the middle to keep the water from freezing. High today here was 11 degrees and when I checked on them this afternoon the water was warm with a slight bit of steam rising from it. Love the home made water heaters. You can't buy one this good for chickens because these are elevated and stay clean and thawed. Roger said Hi. She is mad at me.......again

Yea, I'll be suspending them soon. Went to lowes to get a chain but it's been so cold lately I've been keeping them locked in the coop so there isn't much room for me to maneuver.

Lindz- I'll be soon joining you in puppydom. We can commiserate together.

oh boy lindz... it's going to be a long 2.5 years... at least that's how long my puppy stages have lasted...
I'm usually good after about the 6 month stage.... usually by then the chewing has calmed down somewhat. He ripped the leg of my pants today as we were heading down to the coop. UGH! He is going to get neutered just as soon as he is old enough.... I am hoping to get a goat or two soon so I can start working on training him to work livestock. He is already showing potential as he "herds" the chickens back down to the coop. He hasn't offered to snap or bite at them though, and he stops if I tell him to.

Sounds like a plan!

And on the topic of feeders/ waterers..... I don't put feed or water in the coop. I use the rubber tubs for both food and water, and take fresh water down a couple of times a day. So far it hasn't been cold enough for them to want to stay in the coop, and they scramble out as soon as I open the door!

I am sure we all want to hear about it.
Most women go through "the change". You go through puppy stages.

No major changes so far.... He's just come out of his shell and turned into a ball of energy! His ears are starting to perk up, so they flop over at about the half way point of his ears rather than the bottom. He wants to chew on everything, but will drop most things if you tell him to. He is definitely growng, and will have to go to the vet for his next round of shots and to get some wormer in a few more weeks! He's doing ok with potty training, but still has accidents if you don't watch him and let him out when he starts "roaming and sniffing".... The yorkie hates him, and the Dane tolerates him like a teenager tolerates a little brother.... grudgingly!

Ratchet likes to bite on Zauk's jowls, so Zauk grumbles about it... It is actually quite humorous and Zauk takes it in stride. At least until he gets tired of it. Ratchet does like to torment our cat, which is going to get him in trouble. She is going on 14 this year, so she can be a little grouchy.

Sturgis is a boy. The chicks don't care. He is their Momma the first month or so of life.

This is similar to the scene when Sturgis walks away from the chicks. I have to call him back to get them back!

I can take pictures without wondering what the chicks are doing. He is with them.

They were bathing in the fresh grass clippings. He is just outside of the picture (inside the run) dust bathing too.
