I will take your advice. Thanks cheekait's so unpleasant outside, the flock was not interested in coming out. windy, cold, snowing... although the snow hasn't amounted to more than an inch. so I made a nice mash of kitten food, chicken feed, oatmeal and sliced up a package of tortilla's that probably were still good, but only cost a buck...
look at the crop on Esther! it must be her laying, she's being treated very well by the whole flock - they seem to respect the one's who lay eggs...
OK, my advice on the frostbite is to leave it alone. don't use Bag Balm anyway as I was recommended... it made it worse. the bantam boys and the white rooster look horrible and I feel dreadful because they were not that bad, and the weather hasn't been worse... I wish I had just left it alone.
10 Eggs today, including a few shades of green that I have not seen in months!
nice views lindz, and I am stoked that the Cochin was spared! looking forward to "after" pics - I'll be having the 3 Foster boys processed quite soon. I kind of feel bad, but I know how good that meat will taste! my friend skinned my boys too. much easier.
a HUGE egg would have to have been quite a stretch - impossible to avoid the coloring, unless it dried already? hmmm
Whoops, you'll have your first egg(s) within 2 weeks. I'll betcha a bag of millet on that!![]()
Scrambles, it's agonizing isn't it...??? at least you know they lay! it just takes time to become "regular" Whoops will be experiencing that in 3-4 weeks...

We ended up only processing 9 instead of the original 14 we had planned... She decided she wanted my little Cochin boy... (YAY CHEEKA!!!!!) and gave me a hen as trade!
We actually only scalded and plucked 3, because after that the feathers were freezing on them before we could get them plucked! Luckily we killed outside, took them inside to scald, plunked them in a bucket and took them out to pluck, then brought them back inside to eviscerate and wash and bag. After the first 3 we decided to just skin them so that was much easier and less messy! Plus my hands were FROZEN!
I didn't take any pictures of the process since it was just the 2 of us, and I didn't want to get my phone nasty.... Plus I didn't figure anyone wanted to see them. I will try to get some pictures of the finished product tomorrow if you want to see!
Hubby got 10 eggs today! 6 from the G.Comets, 3 from the EE's and one BIG cream colored one that I have NO IDEA, unless it was Bonnie... (No blue streaks... lol)![]()
Here are a couple of pictures of my drive home from up there!

I do like the cornish cross too, but nothing compares to the flavor of heritage birds.
Love the pics, especially the 2nd one!
