Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

C-M, a broody will pull breast feathers and re-arrange her under-fluff... so sure does sound like she is! at least you know you have a broody - maybe down the line you will be ready to let her hatch some eggs... I cannot wait for Ms. Peach to be ready!

lindz, I gotta say Wow for your decision! they are so hard to resist! I had someone ask me to split an order of sex links... I said no as well... I want Peach and any others who want to brood to hatch me some! although, if she had wanted to split an order of EE's... I would have done it.

It was an order of 25 st.run silkies. I don't particularly care about having any. I did tell her if she ended up heavy on the pullets that I may take 2 as broodies. That's all I would want with them.
Now if it had been RSL or EE I probably would have been in trouble. Lol

This one was still warm when I got it!

I envy you all will room for multiple coops and several of each breed. I gotta say, with the three in the brooder in the guest room right now, I am a little sick of chickens in the house. I will be glad when they can go outside. I am goign to try to hold on to that feeling whenever I am tempted to get more eggs. I think I will give myself a little break before I try to hatch some CCL's.

10 months old and finally starting to show some pink in her really more orange-ish face. Zira would make for a stupendous broody... she's huge and her downy skirt goes all the way to the ground, blends in with her heavily feathered shanks and feet... I would love to see her with chicks popping out in all directions...

this is Cosette, and she is Cuckoo Marans x with Copper Marans. she has very very lightly feathered shanks. but still... there are quite a few tiny feathers.

Genvieve is Cuckoo Marans, slightly more feathering on her shanks, and I don't know if she's pulled them or I just can't see them, she has 2 longer feathers on her feet. I'll be able to get better pics in the Spring.
the boys have much heavier feathering on their legs... but no one tops my Henry and his clown shoes...!

we had a bit of free range fun this morning, before the temps started to drop. it's spitting snow now... I've boiled a dozen and a half eggs, making bacon now... cousin is coming up to hang out, eat and watch movies...

OH! and Rose laid her egg in my hand again! I was trying to add a little fresh bedding...

It sounds like Rose really likes you!! Beautiful chickens. It is cold here too. About 18 degrees right now and snowing. Have a good time with your Cuz and movies. It a good day for it!!

my cousin usually takes 2 dozen eggs a week, so I thought I would let him pick his own.from these, there are a few jumbo's, no peewee, but a couple that are barely out of the medium range into large, they look small to me... but compared to a peewee, they're fine. if I make the boxes, he'd get 1 dozen with a matching pair of all six shades, and then a mixed batch. I wonder what he picks...

Deviled eggs for the Super Bowl. Tee hee... I made a few spider eggs. My DH hates spiders. :-D
The little footballs are cute too! My 15 y.o. loves olives but not eggs. If I made these, they would be naked in no time.

If your DH complains about the spiders, just remind him that they are called Deviled eggs!

Happy super bowl watching. Are you having people over to watch?

WHAT?!!! NO WHITE?!! You're going to have to do something about that.

But don't go so far as to get Leghorns. They're a little crazy. Dorking will be my pick when I need a white layer.

I am NOT crazy. And I know where you live.

Just joking, of course.

Really, beautiful eggs you have there. I especially like the dark browns. Marans are in my future too, I guess. I'm also interested to hear what and how your cousin chooses his eggs. I find those little quirks of human nature fascinating. I once watched a young woman take random bites out of an ear of corn. Everyone else at the picnic had a definite corn-eating pattern, except for this woman. Her ear of corn looked like it had a bad case of mange by the time she was done mangling it. So strange, and even a little scary.

Now my kids intentionally freak me out by random corn eating!
