Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Quote: it sure is! He took a shower and ate a hamburger and chips today. Lots of short walks.

great news Janet!!!

Lynda, Sillie hatched from a cream egg, all the Silkie eggs in that shipment were cream to very light brown. I assume she will lay a cream egg...
My little girl is still not laying, but a friend gave me about 40 of his eggs. They are all a cream/very light brown color.
We egg swap about once a month, its really fun!

Good news about your brother!
Thanks!

awesome pics!

I baked a pack of chicken thighs last night... so I could eat all week... and decided to make use of the fat - or liquid gold as I like to call it...

I heated it to liquid, added a couple of tablespoons of honey and poured in the BOSS, cracked corn and millet...

the round pans are fluted with a small "bundt" cake style post in the bottom. when they are turned upright, I can fill the little space with yogurt... or fruit. they're in the fridge til tomorrow... or maybe Wednesday. I need to spend some time tomorrow with my elderly friend, she's gotten some bills in... although even with that, I should be home while there is still a good amount of daylight.

6 Eggs today - only 1 from the Fosters and 1 from my Blu! come on Spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the idea, I save all my fats and drippings for my birds and the hog too.
Birds get it first right now with the temps being so severe.

They said we MIGHT get 1.5 inches of snow today. We got 5 inches!!

DH said that the girls did not want to come out and did not lay any eggs. When I got home from work... the girls popped out of the coop clucking away, I opened the door and the ran to the toy hauler.

Woo Hoo!!! I got 2 eggs today!

we got a good dusting, maybe 2 inches.

Oh man.... Big R is getting chicks in on Wednesday. Hold me back... Hold me back....

The sound of chicks peeping and kittens crying just does something to me.

Wow, the barred one hasn't missed a day since she started laying! And Hecate has only missed a couple of days. I was thinking maybe three or four a week from each would be awesome, and here they have given me a dozen in 6 days. Is it just the first rush and then they will slow down?

Gosh, I hope George is a pullet.
My BR Mabel is about my best layer. Even with these horrible temps, she lays every other day at least! She is 2 years old.

Quote: Bet thats a dbl yolker!

Jchny - awesome recover by your brother!! I hope you get some quiet time coming up to relax.

Lindz- ouch that looks like it hurt to pop that out! Good luck w the snow!!! We're suppose to get some wed night into Thursday. The only thing I'm worried about is losing power w the babies. But we have wood stoves and can get the temp up to 80 easily in the living room if needed.

No pics today. I decided to give them a break from their modeling career. We'll see what inspires me tomorrow .

Whoops-great egg numbers for only 2. Your BR might over take Rodger in number of eggs laid!!

Everyone else- hi!!! Hope you're doing well!!!!

P.s. Scrambles I hear a little chickie calling your name at Big R!!!!
Thanks, he is doing great!

congrats for all the awesome eggs everyone got!

lindz, I hope you do get some fun snow that the kids can enjoy playing in... and then I hope it melts. I'm not minding it so much... but I don't want any more. I want Spring, and chicks...
X2 have a lot to do!

Quote: After this deep freeze our temps look great. I am so ready and so tired of the cold.

My quail are really knocking them out! 11 quail eggs, 1 chicken and 1 pekin egg today. We laid 13!!!
Boiled around 50 some quail eggs. bators are full, and they make some really awesome yummy snacks.
Shells went back to the FF and the chickens were picking them out!
I added 5 Muscovies this weekend. Lavender trio, Black pair. Will post pics asap, the lavenders are very striking.
The blacks are impressive too and adding my black bibbed hen to that pair. Another BYC member is reducing her flocks.
Pretty pleased with the groups. This gives me 3 trios, chocolate, lavender and black. For now, I am keeping all of them together.
Scovies are more personable and quieter than pekin, but pekin lay year around!
Meat quality is also much better in scovies, but pekin grow fast too. Ugh.. decisions.

Chicken man....
that is the infamous Roger. When she takes over Ok's computer she always puts her picture so we know it is her and not her dad. She is quite the character and gives Ok a pretty hard time when she is feeling rambunctious. You really should go back and read through the whole thread sometime when you get a chance. I'm still working on it.... lol but dont forget to join in now too! We are a pretty friendly bunch and love to hear about everyone's chickens.... and life in general!

one of my grandma's called us such names that it required a dictionary to figure out what the heck she was saying...! she was very intelligent, but not very nice...for instance... when we were being rambunctious, she would call us pusillanimous insignificant impudent sewer rats.

Wow... Lots going on...thank you all for such a warm welcome. Predators here in nm are mainly hawks, owls, coyotes, and my lab mix Deuce.
I love the pie idea too...lol.
Still no eggs but Will def post my first eggs.
We had a cold snap here last week but now it is getting warm with temps almost in the 60s so no more heat lamp for now.
My girls are so funny...when I go out to the pen I always cal to them with chickchickchick.Well now my RIW Will sit by the food bowl and make funny noises whenever I come out and she is hungry. Kinda like she is scolding me for not bringing her breakfast sooner....lol. I am really starting to see their personalities and can't wait for it to warm up more so I can see more.
Oh and I love my rooster big Ben. He is a huge americana I got for free (to test if my fencing was fort Knoxy enough) and I fell in love. He is so funny with his strutting about with his chest poofed out and flirting with the girls...lol. And even tho he makes a big fuss about being caught he likes to be held and petted.
400

These are my birds this morning. This time it was 3 demanding breakfast.lol
