I've been reading this thread for days and I am still not caught up, but I just had to ask you all something...

I’ve been waiting for an egg for oh so long
I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.
I’ve been reading this thread to learn what to do
I’ve gotten some great tips from all of you!
You guys are smart. You guys know best!
So I checked food, water, and bedding for the nest.
Everything seemed right so I wondered some more
Where are the eggs? Perhaps the coop floor?
Waiting on eggs is a tough way to live
I picked all of your brains, what else could I give?
Then it hit me like a bolt from the sky
The piece that is missing! What they needed was pie!
Pie for one, pie for all! They don’t even need a fork!
This must be the key. This surely will work!
But alas, although my pie was the best
It ended with me cleaning up a huge mess.
So now at a loss, here’s a picture of my chooks
Maybe you can diagnose them, please take a look.
Here they are, if you can I beg of you please
Tell me why I get no eggs yet from these?

I am hoping since I am starting them so early in the year they will lay before winter and they decide it's too dark and cold to do anything but eat.

If I have learned anything from this thread, though, it is that a watched chicken never lays so I guess I will just pretend not to care late summer when they are starting to get old enough.

They are ameracaunas and the brown ones are mystery eggs that I bought at the farmer's market to keep the little blue eggs company. No idea what they are. I could have made this easy by simply asking the guy what kind of chickens he has but noooooooo. Always gotta take the adventure route. Whatever they are, they seem to lay good sized brown eggs. Probably just barnyard mixes. We'll see.

I set them on 2-23 so we've got a long way to go. I candled a few of them last night (day 4) and saw that someone placed on of those spider rings I had when I was a kid in each one. Very funny. I thought they were chicken eggs, not spider eggs. Whatever. I'm sure they will be adorable spider chickens!

Now back to reading the thread. I am still way back in 2012....
