Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hi Chicken Steve! x 2 what W4W said, just working out the restart... and oyster shell will certainly help. what kinds of chickens do you keep?

OK, welcome back, and you crack me up!

CLindz, have you ever seen the movie A Bugs Life? your story reminds me of the beginning, when the leaf falls, and the ants are "lost"... we are going around the leaf - stay focused, look at my eyes, here we go, here we go! and look! here's the line again!

I sprained my back, but still had to take care of the flock. The problem was that the snow was so deep, I kept straying from the "path" of snow that was packed down. One minute I am walking through just the new snow, and the next I was up to my crotch. The jarring was keeping my back from healing. The snow up to my crotch caused another problem on the day I wore sleep pants with a big hole in the crotch!
I was in constant tears, and spent most of my time laying in a recliner. Laying in bed was painful enough, trying to roll over to get up was impossible.
Anyway, that is my sad sad story. The gang is okay. Not laying the best, but all four leghorns are back in the swing of things now. I did have to add a brick to the water to keep them from spilling it. They have been outside for several days, but not today. They said it is too frigid.

Oh MC, how awful. Bad backs suck!

And walking in snow would cause torsion, which makes it worse. I have done my share of crawling to the bathroom, so I can understand how terrible it can be. (A heating pad, lots of advil, and rest help me.) Sounds like you are getting better. Glad the chickens are doing good.

oh geez MC! that's just awful! I've said it before... I wish we lived closer... I wish I could help out. walking in the snow can be too treacherous at times. but you go out in holey pants and get a freezer burned whoozit... on top of a sprained back no less!

my butt bruise is breaking up, it's not green yet, but should be turning in another day or 2. it's not comfortable at all to sit on, but I don't wince much anymore.

the flock was treated to an old box of minute rice that had been sitting unsealed for who knows how long... I don't eat minute rice, I don't even know where it came from... and I had some old raisins that I cooked in the rice, they plumped up beautifully. some wilting lettuce and leftover string beans topped it off. they were pleased, and I have 9 eggs so far. (2 from the Fosters, one of them a light pink, first time for that color!) little Esther and EE Topaz are still sitting, so hopefully I'll have at least 11 by the end of the day. it's so cold again... 1* with the wind chill for today's high. I let the boys out for a few minutes, but they weren't all that interested, hanging very near their doorway. my face was burning from the wind pretty quickly too, so I didn't let anyone else out.

my favorite horse at my friends farm was flirting with me today

That horse is beautiful!!!

I'm away on a business trip overnight. Hubby is home chicken sitting. He already called to tell me he's going to kill 'em. Every time he goes outside to lock them up they come outta the coop to say hi! I told him to wait until they fall asleep after dark. Lol!!!
