Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Ha! no worries, thanks for the compliments! I agree, but I'm biased...

love the pup pics - and you, naughty? yes, a little... but is he deserving of a comfy bed snuggle... certainly!

hope everyone's pot roasts come out nice! I had a surprise visit and was whisked away for that fabulous Chinese buffet in the city. I am so full I can hardly breathe. and he just mentioned ice cream. I don't even have cracks for ice cream to melt into... I am that full!

14 fabulous eggs today!

My chickens are 18 weeks tomorrow which is the same age I think as OKs were when he started this thread! I consider that a major milestone!!!

It turned out to be a ONE egg day. The girls would not come out from under the toy hauler because it was snowing so dang hard. I shoveled a path to the pen and they followed me. After eating treats... they scurried back to the toy hauler.

I was trying to put them to bed. So.... I took a shower and watched the news. When I went back out o check on the girls... the snow had piled up another 3 inches and the girls were wanting to get to the pen...so.... once again I shoveled the snow... and once again they followed. This time, I closed the door on them.

They are tucked in and cozy. Pot roast is in the slow cooker in the fridge and in the morning, it will be cooking. By the time I get home from work..... Yummy!!

Thank you, It was just one, so we put out some shell and everything is good now. We my wife and I raise hens only for the eggs and meat, I've had a real mixed group at first but after some culling and purchasing a new group we have, two Americans, one RR, a RR x ?, and seven BR. We'll get a few more reds I think, I can only have 12 hens in the City limits, and I'm in an upper neighbor hood with some up tight people in it.

We try to lay low, we have a large lot with allows us to have a seasonal vegetable garden 13 fruit trees and a lot of berries. We like food here, so we feed our chickens well also, so they can reward us with all they are.

Good news, Chicken Steve. I leave a bowl of oyster shells out. Sometimes it sits there for days and is barely touched, and the next day it's gone. I figure they eat what they need.

Sounds like you are make good use of your property. If we're going to plant something, we usually make is an edible. Now that we've finally got some rain, I have 5 little pomegranate trees I've been babying through the seedling stage that need to be planted ASAP.

The town nearest to us allows a few backyard hens for folks with a decent sized parcels, however they will not allow processing for meat. Most of the urban regulations I've read follow the no slaughter rule, so keeping a low profile is probably a good idea. If anyone in our neighborhood is uptight, they are out of luck because we are outside the city limits, county regs apply. We try to be good neighbors though, and only keep one rooster. He weighs about a pound and does party tricks!
