Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Ahhhh yesterday's weather was awesome!!! Warm enough to open the door!!

Ok... I have a funny thing happen today. When I left for work this morning, I did a nest box check. All 3 were empty except for the plastic egg I put into each nest. When I got home from work... there were 5 eggs in one nest box. 3 real and 2 plastic. I call DH to see if he was playing a joke on me and he said nope. So.... I guess one of the hens decided to move a plastic egg over to the other box.

Two boxes are very low to the ground, so I guess it is possible... with effort...

Do you think that one is going to go broody?? 3 are pullets. Smoke is 3 and has laid only 3 eggs in 3 weeks.

no budding here for a long time I'm afraid... it's so foggy you can't see the stand of trees across the yard at all. but it's 4:30 and it's still only raining - becoming more like ice pellets, but it's not snow.

Kind of neat, but looks cold and dreary and depressing there. You need one of those full spectrum lights. And an electric blanket. And a flame thrower (to melt all the ice). But I suppose the arrival of warm weather would be easier. Most things are budding out here, so it will start getting pretty, but the hills have never really gotten green.

Love the Mylee update. She's a doll. Been wondering how she's doing. You probably have her on Facebook more, and I would join if I could overcome my paranoia.

Officially locked down this morning. While I was pouring the water in, did I see an egg twitch? Not sure. My eyes probably playing tricks on me. More later, my 8 year old made herself a piece of cinnamon toast and it had a solid quarter inch of sugar on it....it's going to be one of THOSE days. Good thing she had only taken one bite and I was able to pour off the excess. Dang!
 
it poured here until about 10pm when it switched to snow. everything is encased in ice. my satellite signal was knocked out, no internet which was awful! I don't care about the TV... but no BYC or Facebook!! so boring! we got about 4 inches of snow, which is a lot less than the foot we were threatened with. this morning, I still had no internet, but we never lost power either, so I have to be grateful for what's truly important. can't remember what I posted yesterday besides the Mylee update and the frozen twigs, but I had 20 eggs, and found 1 more early this morning that was from last evening, it was frozen and cracked. bummer... I thawed it out and fed it to ancient Min Min.

oh and I woke up at 1:14 am with a mouthful of vomit. kept me up for about an hour til I was good to lie back down. but I'm so sick, and so sore, and a migraine... but I have to catch up and then I'm going to take care of the flock, and get cozy for the rest of the night. hope everyone is good!

I got 2 eggs so far today. Walleye fishing class tonight. I just let the girls out to free range... so... gotta go supervise.
