Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm on my phone so I can't quote. But I have no idea what kind of chicks the white ones are. I'm leaning toward California whites since they have the random black spots. But really I have no idea.

Me and clindz are the ones waiting for our BCMS to lay. How old were your girls? I think mine are going to hold out forever!

That bb goal was really close! Yikes!
Loved that poem! Thanks for reminding us about it! Welcome to the thread! W4W is right. The people here are amazing!
Cheeka I hope you are feeling better today.
Mortie good thing come to those who wait!

They hatched July 4th! So my girls are 9 months

Geees!
Not a single other egg yet either. The one I had was super dark, like it was burnt almost.
If either girl lay again will get a pic, I was so excited until I saw it was cracked.
I have one solid black girl, and one with very pretty copper on her neck, I got 7 more chicks hatched from that breeder, 2 are the sunburst cuckoo.
Really pleased, looks like a hen and roo from those 2.
I have fantastic hatches from him, but he is right here local, takes one day to get his eggs.

mortie, hands off! important to leave them be from this point on to hatch. can't wait to see pics of new babies!

W4W, those mushrooms are beautiful!
they train postal carriers who drive the LLV"s (white postal delivery trucks) to deal with those basketball hoops. there is one on the training course, sometimes it's tipped over... because those trucks are 7' wide with limited windows... you have to "square up" so you can see, otherwise you'd be turning blind and there could be someone coming alongside... I drive a POV on my route (personally owned vehicle - nice acronym for I drive my own car...) but I'm certified for LLV and do drive them in other towns, anyway, there is one of those on my route, filled with sand and it's often blown over, so glad it didn't scratch, dent or worse to your hubby's car! someone else on my route filled his kids bb base with concrete. doesn't move at all.

JC, good luck figuring out which one is your egg eater! so discouraging...

Vintagegem,

I'm not touching them. I'm just starting at them, willing them to wiggle. Which they are not doing. Little jerks.

Attention please! Professor Wattles here to remind everyone that today, March 14,
is National Pi
e Day, the most important holiday in Chickendom.

Please help us celebrate by serving copious amounts of PIE.

For those NOT of the geeky persuasion, I will explain. Today's date is March 14, or 3.14, commonly known as pi.
pi = pie.
It is a well documented fact that chickens do not recognize the existence of silent Es.

Pleas serv us pi today!!

Off to feed my baby goat. I had 2 born from the new doe, Shadow, and lost one right away.
She has rejected both, so its every 4 hours. Poor thing. This doe should not ever have been bred.
She was lame when DD brought her home and now will not stand. Front leg is lame. Been working on the hooves, what a mess.
She is about a 170lb alpine, and was housed with a 30lb pigmy buck. Yes they can and will mate....
roll.png

They were free, but I told DD we cant save everyone else's mistakes. Poor things.

I lost this chick this morning.... it is the one that everyone kept pecking.... It was away from everyone else this morning, and was chilled. I brought it into the house in front of the heater but it was too late, and it never perked back up.

Everyone is is doing really well! They wander around scratching and pecking then when they get cold, they go back under the light for a little while.

One of Clarabelle's girls scratching around in the coop!

The nest boxes are occupied......Hershey likes the top ones!

Sorry about the chick. Not to seem heartless, but nature tends to take care of these things. If it survived it probably would have been picked on or had problems for life.

Love those nest boxes. Like a chicken condominium. Hershey's in the penthouse!

That was my theory behind it as well.... I did bring it into the house in front of the heater to see if warming it up would help, but it didn't. I think there may have been something wrong from the get go, because it was the only one that the others pecked at. Even the little ones picked on it, and it just hid its head in the corner and let them.

I have 15 chicks now. All but one of my mystery eggs hatched but half of my Ameraucanas didn't. Kinda bummed about that, they were a little spendy. Since all the pipped eggs are hatched, we moved the babies to the brooder and the babies are doing great. Overall about a 60% hatch rate. I guess not bad for a first time. The hatch started out so great I had started to dare to hope for something around 75% and definitely more of the Ameraucanas so I am a little disappointed now.

The good news is the red chicks seem to be feather sexable so I am going to check out their feathers in a little bit and try and pick out the boys. Then we'll know where we're at for those guys.

Sillie Silkie Soo hatched on day 25. leave them be. chicks can live in the incubator for 2 days... open as little as possible... you just don't know yet. isn't it only day 22?
