Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

SHE is giving me fits. So what else is new. Typical teenage BR. The old "I'm outta here" attitude. I see where SHE was running her mouth/beak last night. I am not worried. Hello friends. I missed you guys. Anybody processing? My BR needs some plucker to get her attention

No processing here. Maybe you could show her BYC's "How to Process a Chicken at Home." Some pics in there that ought to sober her up!

On the flip side, I sure am enjoying my little fluffy bantam Cochins.

They are the sweetest birds I have, hands down. Very friendly and they come running across the yard when they see you, looking like kids playing dress up in over sized clothes and too big shoes. Did I mention how sweet they are? I would raise a bunch of them just for fun if I had more room. The only down side is the feathered feet which can get pretty dirty, but their sweet nature and extreme fluffiness more than compensate.

My lapse into gushiness is now complete.

I'm planning to process my boys. Out of 15 chicks there should be a few.

I think the hooligans are enjoying their new brooder. It's twice the size of their indoor one but they're only using the one side that is warm. They are growing so fast, and going through an amazing amount of food. I have to fill their feeder multiple times a day. Time for a larger feeder methinks. I also have to fill their water up a couple of times a day. I've got a 94 oz juice bottle that I'm going to turn into a waterer next. The 16 ouncer just isn't getting it done. I also gave them another slice of gass/dirt to pick at but I really need to stop digging holes in my lawn....so I can't wait til they get to be in the run.

Snowed again today. Shocker. High temp was probably 34 or so. Also got hail and rain. It was an awesome day for weather. Tomorrow is no better but sunday should be much warmer. If it gets up to 45 tomorrow like they say I will probably put the hooligans out in the play pen for a bit to poke around. Not much for bugs here yet but I can toss some mealworms on the ground and they can go to town.

Henny and Penny are alone for now, I am going to pair them up with Koekie, my young Koekkoek chicken. She will be alone when her brother goes. He is a handsome young fellow, but getting a grilling from my Blue Orp Roo. He is off to a small holding in a weeks time. I will miss him, but better than on the table I guess.
Henriette and Trudy are my blue orp hens, they remind me of stuck up Victorian ladies with frilly bloomers, the way they prance around. They are half way through a moult and starting to look fine again, just wish they would lay me an egg. Haven't had any from them yet.

Just eggs from trusty old ex-batts. Going to go have a peak and see who it is that is sitting this morning.

I want to print that picture, and put it on the inside of my egg cartons to remind people to always buy my eggs.

While I know that is a bad idea (I, a city girl, understand not wanting to be slapped in the face with where food comes from) it sure is tempting!
Seeing those kinds of pictures online is one thing. Seeing a picture here in this thread that was taken by a person I can connect with ... I just want to thank you again for bringing those girls home.

Good that you found a home for him. The first batch of chicks I ever got were supposed to be all pullets, but of course one ended up being a cockerel. We have too many neighbors too close to us for all the crowing he did... at 4:30am!!!

I felt fortunate to have found a home for him (the friend of the lady that my mother in law buys eggs from wanted a rooster for her flock). We went this past summer to visit him and see how he came out. He seemed very content with all his girls, and was very well behaved with the people, which I was glad to hear because he had started to seriously challenge me before we rehomed him. The lady said the move would probably straighten him out and I guess it worked.

Iris was the yellow EE on lower left. Iris turned into a boy!!

He grew fast. Started crowing by 13 wks. Oh my!

2 years later in his new home, we were surprised to see how wide he got. Unfortunately his sickle feathers are missing from a molt. It was really the tail I wanted to see! Oh well!

Iris, aka RuPaul, aka Bob.

Meet Squirt! I'm naming the chickies as they come to me. Squirt squats at the drop of a hat if I even look like I might be willing to pet her. And then stays to get a good long pet!!!!
