Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I have a white with black and brown roos, he is so bad, my daughter came over and went to the coop to get the eggs, he went at her legs like she was a bad thing after them, I went and walked in he did nothing, she came in behind me and he went after her, she can not go in the yard. I am the only one he don't go after.

These guys are just plain crazy, they follow my every move when I go out to the henhouse, then all they do while I'm in there is make this soft pitch "brrraaak" half cluck, even after I throw scratch out for them...It's not until I leave the henhouse do they head out after the scratch...Another question while I'm thinking about it...Is there such a thing as too big of a coop? I converted my 14'x12' shed into the henhouse.

They're just watching you carefully to make sure they don't miss out on the good stuff, like pie! You are the food lady now.

The bigger the better on the coop size. Don't worry, this time next year you'll be wondering if you have enough room for all the chickens you want!

I love this thread!! I have laughed my butt off. I just started my chicken journey with 11 hens and 1 roo. All chicks of course. I have about 16 weeks or more to wait for eggs. sigh

16 weeks for the tastiest yummy eggs ever! Feed them lots of greens and the yolks will be orange and creamy and delicious. None of those pale anemic store eggs. Welcome to the world of chickens.

(PS, I looked in your profile and saw your cutie little chicks. Don't know what breed, but if Amber Link or something similar, they will be good layers and nice birds.)

Isis is so gorgeous! And Betty is a BR, so 'nough said about that! Cheeka, how do you get the pics of them at ground level like that? Most of my shots seem to be from up high. What type of lens/camera do you use?

We are in a major hail/thunderstorm right now. I had to round up the girls in between the downpours of grape sized hail. Wicked....

Hail sounds dangerous for chickens. You need to put out some chairs for them to hide under!

I like your new avatar. You resemble my sis in law a bit. I had thought to post a pic of me, but something's wrong with my camera. Every pic that is supposed to be of me has this strange old lady in it

(and frankly, she needs to lose a little weight!).

I use a couple of cameras, a cheapy Panasonic small unit that fits in my palm, which, btw... takes awesome pics! and a more expensive Sony, with a Lyca lens that is not as easy to use as it should be. but I've pretty much figured it out... the best for chickens, if you have the option, is "sports". without the flash, I can take 3 pics a second, so I'm pretty much assured to get one great shot out of say 5 or 6 rapid bursts. sometimes, all of them are great, just repetitive. and I get the ground level shots by laying on the ground. or crouching, kneeling... I try to get as level as I can, if the ground is wet... it's awkward if I'm not wearing foul weather pants. but I'm fairly well balanced if I have wide soled boots on. if you can't get down because of your back, you want a better telephoto lens or good zoom setting, and take pics from a bit of a distance, which will help with perspective.

I figured you were on the ground, combat style! I can get down no prob, it's the getting up that is awkward, or humorous, depending on your point of view, because I will have 2 dogs and at least one chicken trying to sit on me.

I have a telephoto but need to play with it more. Love the sports mode. clicka-clicka-clicka-clicka-clicka At least one shot has to be decent!
