Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Alright i'm done. Pictures are not that good. But just a warning to you people just starting out. I had a plan. My limit was SIX. All hens and a rock solid NO to having a rooster. I just showed you pictures of 10 of them. One of them I think is a rooster. Tomorrow if I get home in time I will get pictures of the other 8.

pancake flat, glazed broody stare, little bald head... she's still in the same spot, but she had no bantam eggs - just 2 yolk covered blue eggs, which I took. not sure if the broken egg was hers, but I refilled the oyster shell and offered her some, she didn't take any. I'll give her some marked eggs tomorrow.

now this one ate several handfuls of feed - mostly picked through it for the corn, so I tried to pick up mostly corn from her dish. and she drank twice when offered water. I left her kennel door open when everyone else was out free ranging - and the pen door was closed for her privacy... but I don't think she got up. I say that because there is not a single poop in her cab, nor did I find a jumbo poop anywhere outside of it.

26 Eggs today

4 of 5 Seramas are broody now!

I guess it's a case of be careful what you wish for. Sadly, that only leaves my tiniest hen to lay fertile eggs, and they are slow in coming. She's so testy I expect her to be warming a nest soon.

I had found a local lady hatching Cream Legbars and was going to get 2 pullet chicks today. Unfortunately the lady got her incubators mixed up, and the Legbars aren't due for almost 2 more weeks.

She does however have English Orps hatching today (blue and lavender) and Light Sussex. Guess I will try a few of these (twist my arm!), but sure don't want the sad task of dealing with unwanted roosters. Lavender English Orpingtons!

WHEE THREE.... We laid THREE eggs today!! That is the maximum with Rumples out of the laying game. Raining really hard right now, so I cant do physical therapy with Rump.

It is some kind of disease, isn't it, trying to limit the fowl. Akin to potato chips and chocolate. Hard to stop!

OK, I do remember! not much goes astray here and returns. I have to keep circling when I let them out. counting... the Fosters and Royce stay together with very little mingling (except for Royce) unless I have treats, which I normally save for "go home" time. there's 11 of them altogether. 10 now that 1 is brooding. kept counting 9 today and had to go look for one. once it's was Fannie, aka Bakery, which is seriously unusual. she's usually glued to Royce, making him find her some FOOD! she is at his beak almost constantly or at his side in the bath. she roosts next to him too... but I found her in the lower branches of the pine. no needles and her barring... she blended in. the other was in the road, taking a gravel bath. I got that picture. and a bunch of others. first is the way way back of the dogloo, where I found the stash of eggs. I have a nice led flashlight with a magnet, I stuck it to the inside pipe of chain link, works great to look for eggs in the massive community nest.

day 3 for the Broody One, and her Sister, who thinks she should be hand fed too. Now. no I mean like Right Now.
