Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Here are the 7 I hatched. Not sure how I'm going to get to Squirt to see hers.

The wait is killing me! I think we still have atleast 4 to 6 weeks before our hens start to lay.

Ooh, that last few weeks is the hardest because they look like they should be laying, they eat like they should be laying, they poop like... well, you get the idea. Are you waiting on ducks or chickens, or both?

CLindz, those are really, really cute. Must... resist... getting... more...

It will be interesting to see how the colors turn out. (Same with the Serama). Good job Squirt! My poor little hens don't have a choice about showing me their babies. They can peck all they want, but don't hurt, so they give up pretty fast.

Neither of the last 2 eggs hatched, but they weren't due until today, so I stuck them under a Cochin so Fanny could take care of her 3 chicks. Two of the chicks are small and seemed a little weak, so I put food and water in the nest box and they dove right in. The third chick is a big fatty, comparatively speaking, and came from a significantly larger egg (we saw a bit of black fluff stuck inside). That black one wasn't too interested in the food. Guess it had more yolk reserves.

Cheeka, too bad about Big Broody's eggs. Guess being wet compromised the bloom. You are having such an extreme spring though, maybe some summer hatches would be better. We are having good weather, and I am already finding it tricky to juggle all the mamas and chicks. Don't forget the 2 Orpingtons in the garage. They are huge, but only have a few wing feathers. Was hoping to be able to move them outside by 5 weeks, but that's looking like a long shot now. Maybe I can sew them some fleece jammies for our cool nights. They really have to duck to fit under the heating pad tunnel.

Too many chores and no time for new pics. Tomorrow for sure. Gotta get back to it!

   You didn't tell us you had a tornado out your way!  Or was it a hurricane that caused it?  Just kidding.  :D   Cochin, right?  Bantam?  The colors are beautiful.  You'll have to keep us updated on how he-she-it? looks with adult plumage.  I :love cochins.

Small personal wind storm! You know Texas is the mad apex of all mass wind storms lol.

He's actually a LF frizzled Easter egger :) from my EE hen and LF Cochin rooster who is frizzled.

Both! My daughters are anxious about the chickens, and I'm waiting more on the ducks lol. It's funny how in 13 weeks fifteen chickens and eleven ducks are all as big a part of our family and daily routine as the dogs and cats are.

Quote: I know what you mean. My boys were hooked right away. The older son gets home from high school and heads straight out to the chickens for a little fluffy feather therapy. They're so entertaining to watch, too. I think it's easy for us to relate since they're such social creatures, and you can imagine what kind of person they would be by watch the flock drama.
