Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hey guys. Same old story around here. No eggs. No squatting. No egg song. Just 12 eyes looking expectantly at me for treats. We went away for 3 days and everyone survived. I had a dream I found a broken egg in the run. It was blue. I predict that my brown layers will pop first. Got some straw for the nest box so will probably open that up in the next week or so to let them check it out. I think they are sufficient acclimated to seeking out their roost at bed time. Yesterday we got home at 6 and I let them out. I was. Curious to see if they would fi e their way into the run and back home st bed time or if they would just find a nice spot outside the run. Nope...found em all on the roost like normal. Good chickens.

Yay! Trying to round up chickens in the dark is not fun.

Luckily there aren't a lot of places to hide or that many birds...but they are smart girls. I thought about getting an egg skelter but figured out pretty quick that seeing it empty on the counter would be just what they would want.

Well friends we have left the chickens, ducks, dogs and cats behind and went on vacation. I am missing all the animals and am a little worried about them. I have a very dependable coworker looking In on everything once a day and spending time with them but I still worry lol. Here is what I woke up to this morning!

I put some straw in the nest and took the cover off. Then I grabbed a bird and stuck her in there. It's 12x12 which is the same as the ones I saw in the feed store but it sure looked cramped with a chicken in it, and these have some filling out to do. I guess I'll just leave them and see what the girls do before I go tearing stuff apart and stuff...

i also noticed that wilson's legs have changed color a bit. I haven't gotten a close look because wil isn't the most accomadating of birds when it comes to picking up and snuggling. It seems she has some different coloration on the fronts of her legs and tops of her feet. Normal? I'm pretty sure they were straight yellow before.

Gratz on the new layer!

Here are Wilson's legs

I know they're not really close or anything. Wilson's waddles are starting to take off so that's something.

Ah good. I've seen something with mites on the legs that looks pretty yucky so i was hoping this wasn't the start of that. Her legs look almost dirty but not....

i watched the ladies go to bed tonight. They went into the coop and up onto the roost without even looking at the nest box, which is good because they won't be tempted to sleep in it. Mission accomplished.
