Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

we're getting a huge storm soon!  the wind is picking up already... supposed to be torrential.  triple checked everything, especially the broody pen. we should be just fine.:fl .  in the meantime, I'm making a fruit salad for everyone (me too!) but I'll add seeds and clover to theirs...then I need to clean the house.  company left last night and I am hoping to see my Sweetie for a late supper if he doesn't have to work too long a day.
sounds like a prosperous day!

"Whatcha doin?"

"Naptime!"

Sal.Fav cockerel.... he's very cocky!

Cramming into the corner....

The mystery chick from the last hatch that was supposed to be a Sal.Fav. I think he is definitely a cockerel....

He has an amazing pattern!

Scrambles, those boys are gorgeous ~ I don't think you will have any trouble selling them. if you were closer, I'd take them!

lindz, they are so cute! the cochins are so distinctive even at such a young age. fluffs!

so, it was cloudy and humid all day, the wind picked up at 3... then at 4 it suddenly turned really beautiful. so I let them out. we had 2 hours of free range and it was lovely. all the boys were mingling well together, lots of hens to go around, some really epic mating failures - one that ended with a fabulous dismount by Red that planted poor Delilah's face in the grass. the 2 Broody's ate more fresh fruit and some choice grass and clover I picked. they're doing just great together, it's the sweetest chicken "thing" I've witnessed yet. can't wait for chicks!!!
aaannnd Brutus was nibbling at scallions that I was transplanting. did you know that chickens can have smelly breath? well they can! even his beak was aromatic. all he wanted was a good snuggle and I couldn't stop laughing! awww.

Coral is catching the breezes... it's pretty humid. the only dark green grass I have is in the front yard or the areas that haven't been weed whacked (or mowed) we really need some rain, it's been over a week without a drop.

21 Eggs today and a few dozen going out for delivery - no eggs for me unless they start laying 2 dozen plus a day. my customers keep cleaning me out.

No eggs. No squatting. Lots of dirty looks when I didn't let them out this morning when I peeked into the nest box to see of they had even bothered to check it out (they haven't). Look at how red Maggie is though. Ungrateful brats. I bet they hold the eggs in til I go on vacation.

Nice pic mortie! really cute boy, and the pullet certainly is getting big! it's a good bet that she'll make you wait a while longer... but I promise! it's going to happen!!!

so, while at work... I had some distractions.

but I made it home before it started to rain, and collected 13 eggs from the Dome, 8 of which were under Esther. she went ballistic when I reached under her, screeching and pecking... so I left her momentarily and went to see what the Fosters had laid. 4... so I took those 4 eggs and put them in the spare kennel in the broody pen. then I went and plucked Esther off those eggs and put her in the with the 4 Fertile eggs. she wasn't happy. she was trying to get in the kennel with Peach and Gossamer - omg, I wish I had the camera... Gossamer was furious and I've never seen her puff up like she did... and her shrieks were hilarious! anyway, I took Esther out and put the door up to protect Peach and Gossamer from invasion. when I left, Esther was clucking her head off up on the roost. the last time I tried this with Esther, it was more a broody breaker than a broody maker...

then it started to really pour, so I had to get out to make sure they were all dry. they are... and Esther is settled on those eggs. I took the door off the big kennel so Peach and Gossamer can access their water. they have food inside, and I can put a small waterer in if Esther tries to play musical nests... there just isn't room for 3 in there...
