Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Oh, don't you worry, I have some easter Eggers approaching 16 weeks (15 weeks today) and I've read they can be a while definitely not the 16 and 17 weeks I'm accustomed to with my two layers...did you hear that? They are my layers!
Two out of two again today, seems my girls are on a roll! Limin I think is a bantam, so I really don't know what to expect from her.

I have ameracaunas and I won't even look for a blue egg for another 6 weeks. I'd fall over and die if one of those lays before the middle of august. My crew turns 15 weeks saturday. My reds and the ameracaunas hatched on the same day....in the same incubator....inthe same basement.

I started looking at 16 weeks and then one day (not too much later... Maybe 18, I'd have to check) I looked and saw an egg.... 27 chickens now 3 mos later and I still love finding them!!!!

Lindz- hugs to you! I know rachet wasn't of your doing and it's probably more than you need to deal with but hang in there!!!!

Part of my problem is that they get waaaay too much free range time. Should I start keeping them in the run when they get close? Does me no good if the little witches are laying in the yard and the dog is eating the eggs, or they lay there and attract snakes or opossum or skunks.

It is pouring down rain right now. We are going camping for the weekend. The chickens will hate me.... no free range for 2 whole days.

the sun tricked me. it came out, so I let the birds out, then 30 minutes later, it started to rain again! hard! most of the Dome Dwellers took themselves home, but I had a devil of a time getting Belgium D'Uccle Max and Foster Fiona in. I was soaked. and annoyed. the broody's are doing great, I offered crushed pineapple, Peach declined, and stuck with blueberries, but Gossamer ate lots of pineapple, I think she finally trusts me around her egglets.

25 Eggs today, nice to have a little stock in the fridge again. got the 4 dozen packed up and ready to go, and expect to pick up a couple of orders tomorrow for Saturday delivery.
