Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

After 25 LONG weeks, I am the proud owner of 2 beautiful eggs from my Blue Copper Marans. Yeah!!!

lost one today. white EE Veronica. found her dead next to the nest box. not sure if it was from the heat... she was up and about like normal this morning. I worked two routes today so I didn't get home until after 5. I opened the Dome, let everyone out, opened the Bachelor/Foster Pen, let everyone out, checked on the Broody Pen, they're so darned cute... then I check on Big Broody, she's so happy... I only got 1 egg from the Fosters, lowest count ever, but they have to lay in the "new" old kennel... then I collected 14 eggs from the apple coop, most horded by Esther. then I went to the store bought coop. I was shocked! there she was, all stiff. I buried her. I'm not going to keep another dead chicken in my fridge for days until they can take her. if anyone else drops, I'll follow through, but I just couldn't deal. easier to just bury her. anyway... I got some (hopefully) great pics today while working, mostly scenery... they're downloading now. and I got some cute chickie pics - Peach shares them with Sillie! she is due to have babies of her own tomorrow and she's sitting like a champ... but I shared a little bit of ham with them all - Peach shredded it so fine for the babies and only ate a tiny bit herself. Sillie ate most of hers, but them she started making the food cluck and shared too! they gathered around Sillie when Peach was grooming herself... and now Peach is nesting further in the back of the kennel so she's right next to her. such a nice arrangement. pics later.

Poor Veronica! I lost one of the Sal.Fav pullets today too..... I'm giving up on getting this breed. She almost seemed like she hadn't been eating. Her crop was empty and she seemed really light. I don't know if she was being run off of the feed or what?! We buried her, and then a little bit later Ratchet had dug her up.... UGH! So, I went out, disciplined the dog, took her away, and reburied her. Ratchet no longer likes flip-flops, but he was totally avoiding the carcass, and made a wide berth around the coop, and the hole where we buried her. Hopefully, that helps with his chicken fetish! It was nice to be able to catch him in the act, and do something about it! Everyone else is doing ok... I may try to let the little guys out into the yard this weekend.... Maybe if I can stay out to keep an eye out... Harriet and her chicks are doing fabulous, and they will probably go into the coop with the flock in a week or so.... I'm probably going to be putting BB in the freezer this weekend too.... They are just really doing a number on the girls.

Awwww Lindz, sorry about your experience with the SF's :( They are pretty birds, but it sounds like they haven't done well for you. Were these all from the same breeder? Maybe a different breeder might produce more hearty birds?

No these were from a different breeder. I think that they are just so docile that they get picked on and bullied away from the feed and in general. They might do fine as a segregated flock, but I don't know if I want to do that or not.
