Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Why an almost present? Well because it looked like this.

Shell even thinner than Penny's first egg (I am assuming this was not her doing). Dropped from the roost, this one broke open completely. When I peeked in the coop window I saw a suspicious wet spot under the roost but sometimes after all their pooping it does kinda look like that. When I opened the nest box I could see the area more clearly and spotted the remains of this soft thin sheller under the roost. I am thinking this is Wilson because she had started squatting. Maggie is an enigma. She has the biggest and brightest comb of all and has for weeks. She might never lay. Oh well. Good girl WILSON!

I have two suggestions.

1. The incubating and hatching eggs forum is probably the best place to ask your incubating and hatching questions. some of us have incubated but over there is where the experts are.

2. You won't want to try hatching your girls' eggs for a while. They're too small and probably not of sufficient quality for incubating at this point.

Also, you may not get your eggs first thing in the morning. Penny is for some reason a first thing in the morning layer. She doesn't subscribe to the whole "25 hours" thing right now. She has always laid her egg before I even get up. Yours may lay at different times of the day. You may yet get an egg today.

X2........
None of us are really dedicated hatchers so we can't give you much advise. Every hatch I have tried in the incubator has around a 25% hatch rate. Your best bet is to browse through the incubation section. Good luck!

Yay! Progress!

Yay for Mortie!!!! Two eggs! Wow better get that bathtub fired up... Soon you'll be rolling in them.

Congrats phoinex on your first egg! I totally agree w mortie's advice. I've only hatched once and while it was successful I had bought tried and true store incubators so I didn't have to worry about anything. I'm nowhere near brave enough to build my own.

Oh my gosh! Stop the presses!!! Lucy has entered the nest box!! The other doodie heads are so nosy, they won't leave her alone. Could today be the day???
