I have 3 girls laying woohoo and they are awesome they haven't missed a day 6,4,and 2 days.

I have a question. Their was a broken egg in nest yesterday I think my new layer might have laid 2 but 1 broke today in the nest box the fresh laid egg had a smear of yolk on. My chicken is acting normal and like I said laid an egg. Is this ok or is their something I should do

ETA forgot I got my first egg crate filled a whole dozen brown beautiful eggs

Broken eggs, thin shells and "rubber" eggs are common for new egg layers. Their system just needs a little time to get the kinks out. It is also common after a molt. Check out the abnormal egg thread. BTW.... your pullets have oyster shell to eat yes?

this little guy is a champion Pie devour-er.

Fannie is too... she's looking like she might tip over from the weight of her crop.

nom nom nom

this was the start of the Pie, I mixed in chick feed and seeds.

and 13 Eggs today. the next 3 weeks are going to be rough for free time. I won't have much and now it's getting dark so much earlier... boo hiss!

Question when hens stop laying so lighting or molting and begin laying again is there egg usually small like a pullet egg? That's what just happened to me but I can't tell if it's one of the younger pullets first egg

Yes! and often a rubber egg or two. Sometimes a weird looking paper thing that is a lining from the reproductive tract.

They are cutting trees in the woods behind my house. What is left of the woods anyway. The sound of a branch makes me cringe, but the mammoth trees hitting the ground.... I am crying!
Can anyone understand that, or am I crazy? Here in Pennsylvania there are a lot of trees that are falling over for no reason. Roots and all. It has been happening for the past four years. There are so few big trees left mostly due to strip mining. These big healthy trees intentionally being cut is insane to me.

that does stink MC, for the environment... and for you to have to hear it all hitting the ground.

it's chilly up here today, light jacket weather... actually feels good, but giving me the nudge to get it in gear and get that roof built. I have to wait for handyman to be available tho' and he's got some jobs to finish. I also got a message from the local hatchaholic to see if I could take some pullets - I'm so so so wanting to say yes, but I don't really have the room. I asked her for some time to think about it... besides, my work schedule is crazy for a while yet and so it goes... I want them tho', for those awesome first winter eggs...
