Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I can't do it. I'm already over my legal limit, and a little past the limit I built my set up for. I built it to be roomy for 4 so it's a smidge cozy with 6 and would be downright crowded with any more. Bah humbug!

So ok. The girls have gone ahead and stopped laying for the most part. I get one or two eggs a day. Days still getting shorter. Should I buy eggs, or wait it out?
We will hit the winter solstice next week--being up north, the light will be flat for a day or two but will start getting more light quicly.

Is there someone close to you with duck eggs? If so, see if you can get some from them for holiday baking and keep stretching the eggs from your girls until they kick in laying again. It should only be two weeks or so.

No, I'm kidding. We've already bought eggs because 1-2 eggs a day doesn't come close to satiating this egg-hungry family of 5. I don't know anyone with eggs of any kind really. I have a friend who also got chickens last summer but got hers a few months later than me and hers haven't even started laying yet in spite of being about 30 weeks old. No help there ;)

Mortie!! Howdy.... buy eggs for baking.

THREE!! Wheee!!!! but the third was not from Little Bit. I think that Penny is over her long-term molt and blessed me with an egg. I feel a 4 egg day revving up to hit me.

I love the Christmas avatar... I need to try it. Ronnott1 you are a clever man.

btw.... did ya catch the hit and run??
