It is great to have you on BYC!

Laying egg equals health in chickens. Losing the brown coating on an egg happens naturally over the laying cycle. If she has been laying eggs for a long time then she is likely fine and may actually molt now. It is not the normal time for molting but it does happen sometimes.

Weigh her with a kitchen scale and monitor it to see if she is losing weight.

You can do a health check--look for mites and lice. She could have worms too so sending a poo sample to a vet or lab will help figure that out.

Are there any other symptoms of illness?

Yes indeed! Ironic though, that we've had temps in the upper 70s to low 80s for the past couple weeks. Now that spring is here, it's cooling down, maybe even going to sprinkle a smidge today. The oak tree out front is releasing pollen in lung-choking amounts. My car is yellow! Come on rain!
