Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Mystery solved. I went out in the seedy pre-dawn light with a flashlight and checked the coop. One egg, still warm, laying on the coop floor in the usual spot which happens to be right under Maggie. I am an awesome detective lol. I knew it was her and I was pretty sure what was happening. To add insult to injury, the egg was cracked.

My 9 yo has a Nintendo ds that he only plays on long car trips. He has access to a cell phone for when he's at home and I go out walking the dog. It is only talk and text. We have very limited internet, and antenna tv - no cable. When he gets bored, he reads or plays outside. Several of his friends have iPhones and tablets. It really scares me what is available to be viewed unchecked by these innocent children. If you ask him, he wouldn't say he's deprived!

Good job mortie! Now to break the habit. I have one that lays on the coop floor, but she does by choice. I never could figure out how to make her lay in the nesting boxes, though the other 9 do. So I have 9 clean eggs, and one dirty egg. It's not always in the same spot either.

"On the bright side, you know when I've laid my egg!"

lol! Silly chickens! Music and reading are Jazlyn's favorite entertainment. I also say a simple prayer before her baby food. I'm sure she will play with a Wii and watch television a lot in a few short years. All I can do is hope her mother is still into walking, and her father teaches her volleyball. Ouch. I was going to say something else until I realized that idk if I'll be a part of her life in a few years. This situation stinks.

My boys were raised like that. It wasn't a problem until about 8th grade when the lack of video game experience started to affect their social life. Nothing else to talk about, apparently.

We caved soon after and got the dreaded xbox because they earned very good grades and it was by way of a reward. Sometimes I wish we hadn't caved. The good thing about starting the electronic gizmo stuff later is they see it more as a treat or a tool and not a way of life. It is addictive, though.

Oh, and the access to info is a bit terrifying. Even if they aren't finding it themselves, they will hear about it at school. We talk candidly (and calmly) about all sorts of topics. Sometimes the calmly part is a challenge, but now they come and ask about all sorts of things I never would have asked my parents. It's been kind of reassuring, and they are making the right choices.

MC - I assume you mean because she is your husband's brother/sister's kid?? I would hope that after all you've done for mom and dad, they would allow you to still be involved with her, whether or not you are still married to him. Have you ever seen the movie Clueless? In the beginning when Cher wants to know why she has to see Josh all the time, her dad says "You divorce wives, not children."

I have to admit, my kids have all the gizmos. They each have a tablet. We don't have cable but we have every video game thing you can name and probably about 15 computers in this house, including the ones that run our fish tank and stuff. We are just a techie gizmo tribe over here. My kids do not have cell phones and their internet use is not unmonitored. We have something that tells us everything that passes through our wifi on any device in real time. I can sit here and watch everything my 3 kids are doing from right here. Works pretty well. They also do sports and stuff and we love to travel and we are exposing them to a lot of different experiences (like you guys) especially with the animals. It's very uncommon where I live for folks to have chickens and bees and stuff.

Now I had to walk away and come back Iforgot what I was going to say...lol did I mention I saw babies in my eggs last night? Most of the brown ones were hard to see into but the blue ones mostly had little baby chickies inside :)

mortie, I'm old and about two steps away from being a Luddite! I've always said that technology will solve the problems caused by technology, and how you are managing it is proof of that. It will undoubtedly be part of their future, but I also want them to have the skills to survive without it. You know... just in case...

Right.. . Like how I can't get anywhere without GPS anymore? The other day I went to get my hatching eggs from this guy and the street he was on is several miles long and even though I knew where it was I turned on the GPS so it could tell me when I was there instead of me trying to find addresses on commercial buildings (he had them at his work) . I could have driven there FINE on my own but I was lazy. My GPS went haywire and for some stupid reason I listened to it and it sent me the wrong way when I k ew better. I just was a little confused because it was in this area where they just changed everything and put in this weird interchange I am not used to. Stupid. I should have just driven there with no GPS. Woulda saved myself some time...
