Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I have read half the posts with a laugh and a giggle.
But I feel like my girls are still in a pickle.
I mix and I feed and they range all day long
But not one girl has given a song
It's all in the pie, it has to be
But no watermelon here for them to see. I mix and I brew and do all they say
Yet all my girls refuse to lay.
I love your posts..... Especially when I'm bed bound....
And am grateful for my hens and especially my hounds.
My animals are chasing this sickness away
I wouldn't know what to do without them- even if they don't lay!!!!!!!

What kind of chickens do you have?

I have one Minorca... 2 white jersey Giants. Two New Hampshire reds... The second flock is two Delawares (one is a roo) two austrolorps .... The older gals are 21 weeks... The second flock is only 13 weeks but they all get along and are awesome!!!!

W4W, I'm so sorry. Mama Fox will hunt all hours of day and night to feed her kits. it is awful and they never take a boy here. always a pullet or hen. they just don't pay attention to their surroundings as well, and my boys alarm to the stupidest things, so now, the girls tend to ignore them. I've just resumed full flock free range, much to the displeasure of my anxiety levels. I've got to get over it. they need to be outside.

speaking of......

this was on July 12th. both the Silkie pullets from March investigating a nest box. seriously thought they must need a place to poop... no way was I going to see an egg from either of them for another 3 months...

and the egg that one of them laid today wasn't in there ~ it was in the apple coop's communal nest with several others, and below, it's on the left, followed by a bantam egg, a medium egg. a large egg and a jumbo torpedo.

This is Ethel a week ago... She is more pronounced in comb And wattle... She has been submitting for two weeks and spends time sitting in the box nests but does not lay... She is pretty awesome and number five of our nine tier totem pole.

Ethel looks like she'll be ready within another week or so, if she's more red this week... and squatting for 2 weeks is generally the average before the first egg... I bet no more than 10 days and maybe significantly less, like today!

This is Alice... She is a 21week old Minorca... No submission and very skittish and small but was the first one to develope bright comb and wattle.

Hopefully I'll have some eggs soon, one of my RIR's started to squatt today .
I really have to start looking hard for eggs now! I can't wait!!!
