Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I got my first egg today when I got home from school I found it and when my mom got home from work she had dozen store bought eggs, are these chickens like wizards or something...? Lol but I'm excited about my egg!!

That's pretty funny. Mind reading chicken wizards! Congratulations on your first egg. What kind of chickens do you have?

Well, I got them Sunday and all I was told is that they lay big brown eggs, I posted them to try to find out what they are, and I got several different answers, so I have no idea
You posted pictures of the pullets?

Can't identify a breed on egg pictures alone.

I looked at your thread and agree with most of what was said. For the blacks, you have to look at the skin on the bottoms of their feet. If it's pink/white, probably Australorp. If it's yellow, you open up the possibility of other breeds or some sort of cross.

If they have some brown/gold markings around the neck, then most likely they are black sexlinks, which are an intentional crossbreed where you can tell male from female chicks right after hatch by looking at what color they are.

Think your red hen is some sort of a gold sexlink. Rooster- I don't know, but he's got some great color! Nice looking boy.

By the way, sexlinks are excellent layers and usually very sweet hens. Australorps are great too, so you can't lose!

wish my sexlinks were nicer, they are good layers but they were abused by 2 roosters and are still really nasty when new hens join the family.....my newest additions (thank you emorems & her MIL!) are pretty smart though, they just stick their heads in a corner and all of them turn their butts out to Marie & Tillie....LOL...No heads pecked yet and no feathers lost either..

W4W, that's Neffy, and she is tamer than Brutus. but yeah, sun-zonked for sure! she never hops up or side steps from my touching her. often actually, she stamps her feet, wiggles her tail and pecks at me because, as it turns out... I'm not a very good rooster...

I remember when you got her. You can really see her color in the sun. Chocolate brown. Very pretty! I've heard stories about how nice and tame some of the game bantams can be. Between Neffy and Brutus, they would have some super friendly chicks. Hmmmm. A new project.
