If Rumples can return to the flock, any hen can.I have a confession to make. I took a chicken to the vet.
One of my little Serama hens had something wrong with her eye. I noticed it over a month ago when we had to evacuate from the fires. Everything else about her was normal, but her left eye was closed, and she had peck marks on her comb. Not sure if pecking caused the injury or they were after her since she couldn't see on that side. Isolated her with a friend and was trying eye wash and Vetericyn eye gel for a few weeks. The eye got a little better, mostly opened, so I returned them to the coop. About a week later, her eye was really bad, getting swollen and looking a little cloudy. This girl is quite the little pet, so I decided to see if there was some way to save her. Vet was great. He checked her out and I got antibiotics and eye drops for her. After just a few days, the swelling is gone, and the eye is starting to open up.
Sadly, I think she lost vision in the eye. Hope she will be able to return to the flock. It's kind of sad... every time I go out to check on her, she mama clucks and tries to feed me! She's lonely. I will bring her friend down for awhile after she gets better before they go back up to the coop.
Were wolves reintroduced in your area? I think it causes more problems when they do that. Whatever area they are trying to "fix" is just not the same as it was when healthy populations lived there, and the remaining species have adjusted to life without that top predator. I remember reading something about a wolf being spotted in far northern California in the last year or so. Will be better if they work their way back in naturally. They reintroduced turkeys in my county about 20 ys ago (maybe longer) and they are EVERYWHERE now. Not very smart either, the poor things. They have a tendency to wander out into traffic... in the middle of town!W4W... we hunt mule bucks and Whitetail deer. We did really well this year. DH got 2 deer in Montana and we got 2 in Idaho. Our freezer is full!!
Elk are few these years. The wolves have pretty much decimated them and the moose. We haven’t harvested an elk in 3 years.![]()
Fish and Game have admitted that the turkeys were a mistake. We have them here too. Were wolves reintroduced in your area? I think it causes more problems when they do that. Takes longer than a day to get rid of. You have to pick nits off for a couple of weeksDuckling has been here since Wednesday. I found lice Thursday. They were gone Friday.Thank God!!!!
It’s been raining a lot lately. Some hail and snow. Today is rain all day, and snow tomorrow. I knew we needed something to do, so I brought some sticks into the sunroom last night. Today, Duckling made this.
