Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

So far, I have gotten up to 8 quail eggs in a day. That has been this past week. I just collected nine! I’m now down to six possible males.
The pullets are 16 weeks today, and I just found a shell-less egg under the lilac bush. I can’t be sure if it was chicken or duck. Either someone laid a second egg, or I got my wish for an early layer!

How many males will you keep?

I have ten quail laying daily. Today Duckling found our first actual new pullet egg. They are 19 weeks, 3 days. They have been sticking with the main roo, and the jerk SLW from last year stopped chasing them away from food this past week. That was my clue it was coming. :clap

Yep! They do get a wee bit cranky when starting to lay... put the rooster in his place. Congrats on the eggs! Have you tried the quail eggs? How do they taste? I only found one egg today, from my 7 yr old EE. Just too dang hot. Even one of the broodies gave up on setting, thank goodness. She would have cooked inside the coop. The other broody is in a box in the run... little cooler there.

We are having a heat wave! 101 outside and 82 inside. I get my arms and neck wet and stand in front of a fan to cool off. ahhh Chickens are doing okay. They have the run of the entire back with plenty of deep shady spots that never see the sun and they stay pretty cool there.

Poor Ron. I bet he is roasting. It's always much hotter inland when we have this bad heat. Hope he's keeping cool.

Quail eggs taste exactly like chicken eggs. Thank goodness! Duckling insisted I put some in the incubator, so I have six quail that are about ten days old.
I began boiling most of the quail eggs. Duckling even insists I do another batch every few days. :thumbsup I use vinegar to soften the shells, so even she (5 in a few weeks) can peel them. :lau She eats almost all she peels.

I found a quail egg in the pen with the Easter hatched quail. They are going on 8 weeks old now.

I will have a lot of quail eggs!

Congratulations on the new layers!

It is very hot! It was over 103 yesterday and will be the same or a bit hotter today. It did not cool off much and night either. We did manage to get by with the new whole house fan but may not be able to use it tonight.

The misting system worked well for the hens
