They are blue/black/splash chickens. But the project was shut down and the chickens farmed out to various places. I think some ended up in a large hatchery, but a few BYCers got some as well and tried to keep the breed going. Sounds like they need someone to take over the project.

Spot on!

The blue egg laying breed was from Whiting Farms

Tempted..... Would hate to see this breed die out.

Ohh, beagles are so cute! I love their soft ears. But no wonder he doesn't know how to play. All they want to do is RUN! Does he have a name?
Hope he doesn't chew on your blue suede shoes! :D

They were bred to be BBS by the grad students at UofA. The blue egg layers from Whiting are the ones now sold by McMurray as Whiting Blues. The Breed created has the added egg laying ability of the leghorns so lay a lot more eggs than the whiting blues.
