Your BR has nice barring. Much better than my hatchery girl. Did you get them from a breeder? Sometimes the non-hatchery birds take a bit longer to start laying.

ty, both my BR's have nice barring, I'm fortunate, out of the 6 BR's in the order, only 3 are actually barred, the rest turned out to be black sex links, up through the second week, they all looked identical... they came from macmurray hatchery... that's my Wilma in the pictures, she loves a good rubdown, and has squatted and puffed up for me since she was about 4 weeks old... there just isn't anybody else around often enough to get a picture, so I took them myself, not bad considering the distorted angle of my arm...

Little Miss Broody... Thought You Had It Made
With Piles Of Eggs Your Sisters Laid
Your Intentions Were Good You Sat On Them All
No Longer Were You Fooled... With A Golf Ball
I Hate To Take Them It Makes You So Sad
And I Know You Think I'm The Worlds Worst Dad
But I Make You This Promise In The Spring You'll See
Your Dream Will Come True And A Mommy You'll Be

I feel really bad for my little broody BR taking her unfertile eggs everyday..

WOW! you've done it! they've mastered the art of laying and it's all down to PIE! 2 days without pie put them in overdrive... bet they are super excited you're back... but... was Mrs Broody trying to sit on all 16 of them???

mine are still toying with me, but I've noticed that in the last 2 days, they are all getting much more vocal, and friendlier... the only ones not squatting are Violet (RIR) and Isis (EE) and Wilma's vent area is looking super ready... my money is on her for the first egg. I'm trying not to look more than once in the morning and once when I get home from work...

That was almost three days worth of eggs. I did collect two before I left on Friday that were not included in that sixteen. But they like to brag and show off so I make a big deal about it too. I think Miss Broody had nine of them in her box she was sitting on and the rest were devided between the other two nest boxes and of course......the poop board. Your past due for a egg and I am ready to celebrate with you when it FINALLY happens....it will.....promise

Cheeka, getting started pullets or hens is a risk (GERMS!) but it helped me through. Since of the original brood, I only had one girl, I would have gone crazy feeding all those chickens for one egg a day. Now that I have 14 new girls (I found one boy, I had better not find another!) I am able to be calm. I don't dwell on the fact that some can be laying as soon as five weeks (Holy crap! That soon?!?!?!

) and all by Christmas. I WAS able to focus on my layers.
HOLY COW! I'M GONNA BE GETTING MORE LAYERS SOON!!!!

When I first got chicks it was just to have some chickens around, and eat bugs, I never even thought about eggs, if they lay, good, if not, oh well, so when I saw the first egg I was surprised. Wow, you guys are really going to lay eggs. Then they started hatching them out, wow, you guys are really goin to make more chickens! Now, why would that surprise me?
