Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

YAY Roger!!! Way to go!

Now I've got to go get some styrofoam for my girls! The weather is starting to cool down and I'd better get them prepared.

My broody is spending more time off the nest than on. (I took away her golf ball.

I still don't have eggs... but the gang is growing up into wonderful, sweet tempered, fat Pie loving chickens! the younger 3 are making headway in the merge, and they trust me now. that in itself is such a relief... they've been here for 3 weeks, it was beginning to get frustrating, (there's nothing like wanting to share some seeds and have them go to the opposite side of the lilac...)
I'll try fake eggs in the nests if i don't have any by the time they are 6 months

Whew, I was a little concerned, but they are just bulking up for winter then. No wonder they look so fluffy! Hope by 24 weeks those slackers are contributing some eggs cheeka. Sure seems like forever for those eggs.

We don't see any picture of Roger's egg... all that waiting and you're not showing it off?

Well its not Rogers first egg or anything like that so I didn't take a picture. Its just her first egg she laid after throwing a fit because she wanted pancakes instead of pie. She got out voted and did not take it well. I guess she thinks that because she lives in a five star hotel that room service should bring her whatever she orders. Twice I have had to make her get out of the nest box and roost with the others at night. One broody is enough and Roger is NOT broody. She is however a little "b_ _ _ _ h" who can find more ways to mess with me than all of the others combined. I let her eat birdseed out of my hand yesterday and last night she got up on the roost with the rest of them without any problem. But I know its not over for Roger. No way.

Careful not to brag too much on Roger. Her head gets easily over inflated and she is hell to deal with. My broody almost never leaves the nest box only to eat and drink and do her business then right back on that nest with her golf ball. Sleeps in the nest every night

We need to come up with a recipes for that first egg, eggs cheeka, sounds good.
That first egg is special. I remember walking past the eggs in the store and seeing them for around $2.00 a dozen and then thinking about how much time and money i had invested in my "Chicken Adventure". So when I got that first very small egg I treated it like a diamond for over a week and when I couldn't wait any longer I cooked it very carefully all by itself and put it on a small dish, lit a candle, turned down the lights, closed my eyes, and convinced myself I was eating caviar. After that was over I felt even more stupid. I am now trying to convince my better judgement that I am dealing with a addiction that needs to be addressed tomorrow everyday. Now I must go clean my poop board before I go to work. Have a nice day.

Maybe roger wants some joowerly with pie as well now. See what happens when you spoil them? Might be time to try breaking that broody spell though, they do tend to loose weight and the lack of exercise can't be good...and it's late to think about hatching even one. Jmo.
