Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

jchny, just give them a little more time. How long has it been since the feed error was discovered? I suppose organ damage is the biggest concern, but if they lost some weight, they will need to regain all plus some for winter warmth. It takes time, especially with these short days. If you resign yourself to not getting eggs until the approach of spring, you will probably get some sooner.

(Something similar happened to a friend who gave up on having a second child after 7 years of trying, and then within a year, got pregnant at 40!)

Ugh you are right, i only caught the oops a week or so ago. They are still very plump and shiny, their feathers have a sheen, glossy look. Ducks are fat, so are the geese. the guinea hens look thin tho at least my comfort zone is not there yet. I will give lots more mealies this week. if the suns out i will beg DD to take pics. LOL had to go look back in the forum, it was right after we got mom home i saw what had happened. they had the crummy low protein sweet feed about 3 weeks. So spike was just being spike, false alarm! They didn't get to range today, i went and did all their shopping for feed (the other criters too)
Wow 40, ugh that would be rough!

Yes indeed. I had my DS#2 when I was 37+.

<---- is how I feel much of the time!!!

How is your mom doing? Hope she's feeling better.

At the county fair I always spend a great deal of time mooning over the textile arts. Some spinning wheels, but a lot of the yarn makers use a drop spindle because it's more portable. Probably a lot more affordable too.

The alpaca wool is soooo soft. I bought some yarn that was an alpaca silk blend and crocheted a scarf for my MIL, who was very impressed with the feel of the wool. (and she is about the fussiest person I know so you know it met a very high standard!

) Are you going to shear the beasts yourself?

Thanks much better, she is having bouts of nausea tho. but her color improves daily. I am going to pay someone this time to shear, and watch hehe.. Beanie is cooperative but he is huge, i bet near 175#, comets very flighty if frightened but smaller. Beanie is the softer breed too, in the sun, the color is just stunning. my youngest DD just cant believe they are so soft, all the girls will visit her, will gather and just scratch them and hug their necks. The boys love all the attention, and the baby carrots as treats. we were friends with a sheep farmer before we moved here and their wool is much stiffer in comparison. Oh i am a sucker for the wonderful fairs! I am looking hard at the portable wheels, theres a few below $300. But i want the old fashioned wooden wheel too, they are so pretty.

jchny, good to hear that your Mom is improving, and while she is in the hospital, they do have some pretty powerful anti-emetics they could use to control her nausea, but if she's home, you might want to pick up a bottle of peppermint essential oil. a couple of drops on or under the tongue really helps ~ so does peppermint starlight candies, but they are so full of sugar, that I prefer to use the oil myself... I keep it handy for a couple of the treatments I undergo. the worst for nausea is enduring 8-9 cortisone injections in my skull monthly. it feels like my skin is being flayed and when the pain subsides, I'm always very nauseated. drip drip and I'm all set to drive the hour home.

for your flock, it hasn't been very long since the feed was corrected, hang in there, they will resume. I fed my little bantam, Peach the wrong food ~ when she first got here, I finished up the chick feed and finishing feed with the new birds, but then switched to layer feed, I didn't know she was so young. I think she was only 14 weeks old before she was on layer feed, and it was 5 weeks later that I found out that she was too young! I have been so concerned that I did organ damage, but she's continued to thrive so far... she's grown, gotten nice and fluffy, has lots of energy, but zero eggs, her hatchmates are laying... doesn't mean all that much, she's on her own schedule after all... but I hope I didn't break her. while her comb has stayed a light pink, I did notice it was slightly pinker yesterday.
