Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

The venison is probably a lot healthier than beef too. It's the corn that they're fed to finish the cows that supposedly raises the cholesterol of the beef. Grass fed beef is supposed to be better for you, but it lacks some of the fat and flavor that we are all used to. Neighbor goes deer hunting every year and gave us some sausage that he made. My hubby said it was good, but waaaay too spicy for me.

I talked to Si. He asked me to tell you he is sorry from the bottom of his heart. Sometimes we do things without thinking. I've done my share too.
Shocked to see a repenting Roger! Maybe she's trying to get off of Santa's naughty list.

Its been mid 20's here in Kentucky last few mornings. That reminds me my Golden Comets have a birthday coming up soon. They were born in January I was told. Looks like I have a Birthday Pie to make.

Quote: They say deer is better. It is a lot more lean. And the fat from a deer is not edible. You have to trim away all deer fat. When you make venison burger you have to mix in beef fat or pork. Roger better stay off my laptop. She has been on here trying to butter up cheeka all day. She is so phony.

I don't mind. I'm a huge fan. It's not phony either, it's inspiring... I'll write her a poem, tomorrow. I'm pooped. g'night everyone!

ETA, venison is far healthier than beef, even pasture raised. I can't stand the soft fatty mush they overcharge us for at the store.

I have some news about my Welsummer, Grace. Got her as a chick Mar 16, not expected to survive due mostly to an umbilical hernia. We thought she had been damaged by this, as her spur buds are growing, and ACW suggested she may not have working ovaries, which I figured was very probable. This week she started acting oddly, talking a lot, coming very near us, and fooling around in the nest boxes. Well, tah-dah, she laid an egg this afternoon

the color of a terra cotta pot! Talk about waiting it out, though. Grace is over 8 and a half months! She's one for the Late Bloomers record book, but I am sooo happy!!

Now I'm just waiting it out for the two Ameraucanas. They are around 7 months and starting to explore the nest boxes too.

I thought I only got one egg yesterday. Thismorning I was checking the 4 hens in the holding pen, and saw one egg on the floor, and .... No! No, I am seeing things. I am sicker than I thought! No way! .... OMG!!!! The hens are in a double rabbit hutch. When I got them, they were laying their eggs in the rabbit house by the door. It is nailed open for that reason (the lid is). I don't have the other end opened because ... Well they hadn't been laying in there, and it is a pain to get to the eggs. Some how. Some way those hens were able (and wanted to!) to squeeze through a six inch hole to lay their eggs.

It's amazing the lengths they'll go through to hide their eggs. ACW said to make sure they don't see you collecting eggs out of the nest box so they'll keep laying there.

Hope you feel better soon!

I think today is the very first day that neither RIR laid an egg. 2 creams and 1 dark green, collected after dark, no chance to do plastic work without pulling the car around to shine the headlights in on the roosting gang, that's just not fair, so maybe tomorrow... it's fairly nice in there ~ it's not windy at all, the waterers are all liquid, and I have the fresh buckets ready for morning. I have too many things to do in the morning... I have to retire early, so I can get up an hour earlier than usual. I need to be in extra early to watch some training video ~ probably gruesome scenes of carriers caught on film, not parking properly and having their vehicles run/roll away... but it has to be watched by the end of the week, and I'm not going to be in Gilboa after tomorrow. I'm working a 100+ mile route up in Prattsville through Friday.

I told my PM about the chicks coming on 12/4, and that I might be 10 or so minutes late to work, as I will pick them up in Albany, save them a truck ride and sitting in Middleburgh for a few hours... they may not arrive until the 7:30 truck comes in ~ they should be earlier, but I don't know. She asked me if I wanted the day off ~ oh yes! I do! but if I take it, the chicks won't come until 12/5...
