What is everyone's opinion on this rooster? He is a May 2017 chick and I am told he is Black.... I realize he isn't show quality, but for a first time Silkie breeder (hobby only! No showing) how do you think he would work? Would you buy him? (He does have the correct number of toes)

If you want him, why not? If you have an existing flock, you will need to quarantine him for a couple of weeks. Be sure you know where he is coming from and give him a good check-over for lice, scaly leg mites and other health issues. Why is the seller getting rid of him?
I think I do want him now! :love The seller is selling because she has two roosters. She only wants 1 and she doesn't mind which one I take! The other looks similar but he has a red comb...

He's gorgeous~! He has a little bit of orange leakage on the back of his neck but that shouldn't matter if you don't plan on showing him.. besides that he's a pretty good looking roo.. I'd take him if I were you :love
I was planning to ask about that! Over a black hen, would he pass on that leakage? Does it come from a buff chicken somewhere back in his line? And thank you! I think I want him...

If anything he might have some partridge in him. But you can breed that out of your stock with some solid black hens, Some of his boys will probably show some leakage on him but not much. Wouldn't expect to see much if any at all on his offspring
