should i caponize my little chick

never owned any roo before so I thought they were aggresive are they still cuddly

Some are. My DS has a little pet Sebright rooster who is just the sweetest thing. And we had a Porcelain D'Uccle rooster named Prince Phillip who was deeply snuggly. He loved to snuggle and nap with people - he'd just cuddle in and xroon himself to sleep. We have some young Silkies right now, and I can never tell with them until they're about old enough to crow, and they're all sweet birds.

Roisters only tend to get hostile when they don't see you as a flock member. With you cuddling and pampering your chickens your hen will not be in danger of getting hurt. I have heard of many people raising one rooster and one hen and the rooster doesn't attempt to breed with the hen. You just have to deal with this little gross thing if you don't want your rooster to mount your hen, pull him off put him when he does it and put him in solitary for 5 minutes and he will eventually learn. I have a pet rooster that likes to jump on my arm when invited and he loves cuddles and good scratches by the comb. Also as long as you do mind waking up early with a little squeaker by you ear then it is ok. Just never ever use a rooster "collar" they only "work" because they choke the rooster, chickens have big lungs and they breath a lot.

I guess I'll just have to see how he or she acts when there older how old is old enough to crow?

so if he does start jumpin on her put him in solitary for 5 minutes? I've never heard of a chicken collar hut good to know I can deal and love with a little rooster I get up at like 7 or 8 to go outside with ace anyways since its summer and carona I have a lot of free time to be outside with her and when schools back I have to be up early anyway. I'll just see how he or she turns out. I think it's a rooster because he stands up straight and when hes on his back he extends 1 leg

I don't think that that may prove that he is a rooster, before he reaches sexual maturity he gender is unknown. Unless you get him sexed somewhere or you vent sex him, vent sexing is dangerous so you must be cautious if you ever do it. The way that he is acting is just showing that he is a quirky little chick that is a oddball. I even had a quirky chick that would hit walls so I named him Danny Bantam, he is a bantam and because he would hit walls, Danny Phantom. Get it? Don't judge. Turns out that he was a she. In fact now, the rooster that I have looked quite feminine when he was a baby, he had the biggest doe eyes markings on his face compared to the others.

Edit: The solitary might work, not %100, if he is not a smart chicken it won't work, some are smart, some aren't. Also, if you train him at a young age to sleep till 7 am to 8 am, it will be ok, but they can also crow at 6 am. Some chickens can even be trained not to crow and I think that it is humane? Don't know much about it, take caution. Good thing that you got a silkie they tend to not to be vocal, I once had three silkie roosters that never crowed.

Danny bantam cuteeee even if he or she is a rooster I think I'll keep her since shes so cute the big walnuts and streamers on rooster silkies kinda freak me out tho I guess the hen silkies are cuter. I have ace trained to come when I click my tongue so I think I could train a rooster idk I think raising a rooster could be a cool challenge

In a rural setting, if the silkie is a rooster, just try and get it some more hens!! If you wind up with an aggressive one in a small flock, just eat it.
eating it even though I raised It i could never i have a friend down the road with a flock I'll probably give it to her cuz ace isnt really liking the chick shes scared of it lol

There are places where you can mail some feathers, and they check the sex of the bird by its DNA. The cost isn't too awful--$20 or so.

If you know the sex for sure, and if it's a pullet, you could quit worrying. If it's a cockerel, you could decide whether to re-home it while it's still young (before you get any more attached), or whether to try keeping it anyway.

Silkie roosters do have a good reputation for being nice to both humans and hens, although of course there are exceptions with any breed.
ooo do you have the link? and I dont know the sex for sure she or he just stands up straight and when i put her on her back she extends a leg. though ace always stood up really straight and was rooster like and she was a hen
