Should I COOK her? Need your thoughts.......

Thanks for all the responses. Ginasmarans, I'm sure it's a hen. Here's a pic of her and tell me what you think. I have never heard any crowing and she does sit in the nest but doesn't give an egg...isn't that strange? She was 8 months on Sept 22nd and her sister is laying just fine since 5 months old. I keep telling "Rhodee" she needs to lay or go in the POT! She needs to pull her weight around here!

Here's a pic of her...what do you think? Is she a dud needs more time to start laying? I think 8 months is plenty of time!

Boys and girls have spur bumps .That is a girl for sure though. How do you know she isn't laying if you are getting eggs from the coop? Not all lay every day and the hens could be rotating.

Else, make dumplings and when you are cleaning her out, you will know for sure.

Another softie response here: give the girl more time! I had 2 EEs that didn't start until well after 8 months (they both lay jumbo eggs...that was my gift for patiently waiting, i guess)!!

Thanks! SWTangel321, no they do not go out of their coop because I have the yard landscaped

but they do have a 100 watt bulb burning all day in the hen house part of the coop and the other side is wire so they get sunlight in the afternoon. Plus they get grass clippings, dry oats, brocolli, apples, and vitamins in their water...that's why their feathers are shiny. She gets everything but no egg in return

How much more time should I give her?

Silkiechicken, I know she is not laying because everytime she gets in the box and sits awhile, I watch when she gets up...there is no egg left behind except for the fake egg. She goes in the box almost daily but doesn't leave anything...plus I know the shape and color of each of my other hen's eggs. Of course, the green egg is a no brainer...LOL...I know my EE laid that one!

You see....I just when out the feed the girls and collect eggs and here is the culperit in the nest...at 5:00PM! This is what she does but then NO EGG! She does this at differnet times of the day even.....so frustrating! I'll keep you guys posted if she lays this time.......

If it were me I would give her more time, did you get them as chicks all together (sorry if you all ready told us)

Cant cost all that much extra just to feed her for a little while longer to see if she starts laying.... Maybe she is sex confused and wants to be a rooster

She got off the nest and NO EGG again! I'm going to give her more time I guess. I thought RIR were suppose to be the best laying breed around. Isn't it in a hen's body/DNA to lay eggs by now?
