should i get a duck

can i keep the ducklings with my chicken chicks?
It can be done, but requires a lot of work to keep the brooder dry enough for the chicks.
I’m thinking ducklings aren’t susceptible to coccidiosis? @casportpony would know.
Ducks can get duck coccidiosis, though it is rare. Chicks get chick coccidiosis, ducks get duck coccidiosis, they do not catch it from each other. Coccidiosis does thrive in damp conditions, so keeping the brooder dry, whether for ducklings or chicks, should always be the top priority.

You mean like in a brooder? probably not a good idea, ducklings are so messy and chicks would be susceptible to getting wet and chilling I'd brood separately.
I agree. Chicks like to snuggle with wet ducklings and that is what makes it so hazardous for the chicks.

hi i really have really wanted a duck ever sice meeting some ducklings at a local feed store. should i get them? i already have chickens and quail. what are heir requirments? and the lingering question how do i get my mom to let me get them considering im only 13
i had my dad take me to the feed store to “get treats” for my current ducks and instead convinced him to get ducklings once we got there

We keep chickens and ducks together currently and we had chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and guineas for a little while. We have muscovies that have decided they are part chicken and roost with our chickens. They do need more water than chickens, we keep 2 kiddie pools out all the time for our ducks and chickens. As for brooding them together I would not. Ducklings grow so much faster than chicks. I have chicks and duckling the same age right now and the cochin chick is as big as the ducklings foot! If I put them together the chick would get squished. Ducks are messier than chickens, we use a plastic storage tote for a brooder. I attached a picture of my muscovy perching in the chicken coop
