Should I get all the same breed? Or different ones?

Do chickens prefer to be with their own breed? Or are they fine as long as they're with other chickens?

Also, which of these breeds do you think is best? (I want friendly, hardy, non-broody birds)

Brahma
Orpington
Easter Egger
Australorp
Silver Laced Wyndotte
Light Sussex

I think that's a great list and you should get a few of each.

It really depends on your goals, too...if you want purebred chickens that you can hatch more of, then you'll need to stick to 1 breed, or be able to separate breeds.

I started with 6 breeds, and I've added a few more, and I still want more! I just love gathering my eggs every day and not knowing what color or size I'll get! The chickens all get along great, although yes I do see them stick close to their own kind sometimes...you know, birds of a feather flock together. I plan on hatching some of their eggs just to see what kind of crazy mutts I get...I expect them all to be beautiful

The thing is, I'll be getting only 3 chickens. If I have one Brahma, one Easter Egger and one Sussex, will they get along fine?

We are like Noah's arc we have 2 or 3 of a bunch of birds. They all get along perfectly well. We have polish, silkies, orps, marans, wyanndottes, japanese,cochins,ducks,anconas,hamburgs,games....the list goes on
