Should I insulate my coop?

Sounds like you had you mind made up, before you even asked.   Insulation is a waste of time and $$$. in a chicken coop.   The chickens, as already stated, come with PERFECT insulation of their own.  Besides giving them a nice, dry, well ventilated coop, they need no extra "Help" from us, to keep warm in the winter.  All you are really doing, is providing a nice hidden place for insect and rodent pests, to set up housekeeping of their own, from which they can come out and harass your birds at will.

Nah, just very indecisive. I tried to delete my previous comment but couldn't figure it out. After re-reading replies and giving more thought, I've decided not to insulate. I think they will be warm enough, and I used foam caulking (on the outside, birds can't get at it) to seal any gaps.

The previous homeowner left brand new insulation, so it wouldn't have cost me a cent to add it in ;). I just worry, since our winters can get to -40c.

If I lived where it got that cold and if I had chickens and if I had free insulation, I'd use it if for nothing more than peace of mind and to help keep the water from freezing. Mind you though, I'm the gal that blankets my horses if it drops below 40!

I've built a double walled coop with the intention of insulating.

I live in Ontario Canada where our temperatures can get as low as -40, and the summers are quite hot.

Also, I am a new chicken owner so this will be our first winter.
When winter comes I feed extra corn to my birds to help them combat the cold.

I am in Canada and subject to the same climate as you New Brunswick to be exact.

I do not think it is necessary to insulate to combat the cold personally.

That being said I have my coop insulated more to combat the heat.

This is the way my coop stays during most of the winter.

I do shut the left hand outer door during sever blizzards and arctic conditions.

My small windows in the doors are usually propped open all winter long.
