Should I let my broody 23 wk old pullet sit on a clutch????

still one but others are rolling under mama. she's a little Marans type, grey with yellow belly and wing tips.

Soooo happy for you!! And your mama hen of course! Pics! Lots of pics! Asap! :wee

I got 5 little peepers out of my clutch of 8! No brahma or barnies, but I've got puffy cheeks galore! 🥳

Are you thinking about keeping the bunch? Any interest in the thought of swapping chicklets after mamas done with hiding them up her skirt? 🙃

where are you in Ontario- its a pretty big place LMFAO. Thanks for the dancing emojis.

We have 6 chicks under there today. 2 eggs left. % chicks are marans colouring, and the 6th is all yellow. Want to give the last 2 eggs a good chance under momma before a photo session begins. LOL

Got it. I’m about 2.5 -3 hrs drive from you. I’m in Northumberland County, south of Peterborough, just north of Lake Ontario

here is the gang so far. Eggs 2 and 5 are still not pipped but mama is sitting still. It is only day 21.
Please tell me all those white head spots don’t mean roosters!!!!!!!!
Hens were welsummer or welsummer mix or marans.
Rooster was pure cream leg bar .

Why did I think you were in Grey Bruce? I must be mixing up my Ontarians!

What adorable little peepers! Hows mama doing? I don't know much about how the barring gene represents itself outside of barred rocks, but I think the rule is that if mama is barred daddy isn't... spots mean boys.. but I'm not an expert by any means!

MAMA's are NOT barred, just dad.

Awesome. there was a 7th chick out and dry this morning. Also with a head spot. (actually a double head spot!- one yellow, one white!) Im calling her double stuff.
I took the last egg away and placed it in my incubator. I didnt hear peeping when I chirped or tapped, so I think its a dud. But I have other eggs in lockdown so its perfect timing.
Will post pics of mama "Izzy" teaching her chicks to eat and peck at grit. So lovely. I love watching a mama hen. Im tempted to bring her inside for a week so I can watch her all day long- but 'Id get nothing done.
