Can't use a pellet gun in town??? What kind of town do you live in? I've always heard that full grown chickens can whip up on a cat, but probably depends on the cat.
In my town, (and i live 30 minutes from the city... this is not some congested city town...) in New Hampshire, it is illegal to shoot a cat, even with a pellet gun. My next door neighbor has had over 20 cats at any given time, though I think she is down to 7 or 8 at the moment. Lovely neighbor in general, just has a lot of darn cats. Due to them using our gardens as litter boxes etc, I have another neighbor who has taken to shooting them in the butt with a pellet gun. Needless to say, the police were knocking on my door and investigating not too long ago. If they can prove who did it, there will be arrests made. The police said the reason for this is not just animal cruelty, but because the vet bills are costing the neighbors lots of money.
I am not looking to debate who is right or wrong...obviously I feel that I, and my neighbor(s) have a right to protect our properties, gardens and animals from predators, in this case, domestic cats. And obviously I feel its the neighbors responsiblity to control her cats and keep them on her property or deal with the consequences (ie. vet bills and injured cats)... Doesn't really matter what the heck I feel though, when a police officer is standing on my porch telling me I can get arrested for shooting a neighbors kitty, on MY property... I'm probably not gonna shoot the darn cats..
Now I haven't had a problem recently with her cats, and I don't now if I'd have the heart to ever do it
but it might work for some: Trap the kitty in a havaheart and drop it (properly) at the humane society or relocate somewhere faaaar away.
