Shouldn't it be blue/green?

One of my ameraucana's lays light sage-green eggs with shiny shells and the other one lays light blueish-green eggs with dull chalky shells. They came from a hatchery in a small town nearby.
My 3 BA's haven't laid anything at all since their first 2 light brown eggs over a month ago. They can lay eggs that are hensh1t green for all I care I just wish they'd lay SOMETHING!

Ooo, this is so exciting!

I got my first EEs just Sunday and the one year old Im told, lays blue eggs (but she's two weeks into a molt so its gonna be another month before I can expect any nest box surprises). Now the pullett is yet to be determined. She is only two months old. So Im figuring...March mabey? Don't they lay when they are around 5 months? Ya'll said EEs were late bloomer, so what can I expect? Im still perfectly happy with the tan eggs I am getting from my BRs. I really look forward to this spring!!!

I was going to ask the same thing.. i have an Americauna that is laying the cream/tan eggs.. POOP.. I wanted a blue or green egg from her.. Can I send her back to chicken school so she knows what colors she is SUPPOSED to lay!!

Luckily we have another EE that lays green.. I think i need MORE hens!!!!

I have 25 Ameraucana pullets from a hatchery that are 8 weeks old. After reading this, and realizing they are probably EE's, I'm really disappointed. I wanted colored eggs, but instead of shades of blues, it sounds like we will have shades of greens. We have browns from the 5 layers (4 BR & 1 black star) and white from a little bantie girl that have started laying now, so I guess maybe we will have a variety of color; just not the colors I had wanted. The girls are all healthy and growing very well. Just kind of disappointed they were misrepresented.

I wanted to add a picture, but wasn't able to get it to work

Hey ya'll.......just get some real Araucana Roosters.....even if they are culls from ya'll areas to get your girls exposed to something closer to what their ancestors were. Then the next generation will have either blue or green eggs. If you would have pure Araucanas it would be blue, but the brown egg layers mixed with them might give an olive color to what should really be blue, but it is still an interesting color.

I've learned my lesson. I don't trust feed store or hatchery labels any more. I purchased "day old" chicks from a feed store. One was labeled Auraucana/Ameraucana -- but she is clearly an EE and lays the green eggs. Another was labeled Cuckoo Marans, but she is (according to a lot of people here on BYC who have seen her pic) either a Barred Rock or a mix of CM/BR and her eggs are nice but not the chocolate brown I expected. My Black Australorp seems to be true to her label. And, Bonus...she's a powerhouse layer so far!

I love all my girls, don't get me wrong. They are healthy and lay delicious eggs. But in the future, when I want a specific breed, for egg color or any other reason, I will go to a reputable private breeder. And I'd get references, first. That's just my experience.

dont fret thats not always the case at all some of the bluest eggs I have seen are from EE's so you will more than likely get an nice array of blues, greens, and pinks if you have 25 of them.

I have an EE that doesnt even have a muff or beard and she lays a very blue egg.

I have two EEs -- one lays sky-blue eggs and the other one lays eggs that are dark brown -- almost copper-colored -- and these two girls are my most 'efficient' layers --

Thanks for the encouragement. I really enjoy the "girls" and my 6 layers give us really nice eggs. Now I'd just like to have a couple cookoo marins to round out the color pallett. They make my day!
