Show me your blue eggs!

Yes, "Ameraucanas"and even "Araucanas" from both hatcheries and feedstores are really Easter Eggers. As for color, it really depends on bloodlines. Since EEs are mutts, you can get anything. I often have seen EEs with FAR more vibrant eggs than Ameraucanas, but the chances of finding one are hard. . . After all, each one is different.

With Ameraucanas, depends on the breeder. Some are khaki green, some are pale blue, some are blue-green, most are pale.

So there is no telling on who has the best - Each of them are unpredictable. Even Araucanas are unpredictable, as most are rather dull blues.

Yes, Ameraucana are a recognized breed. Many people call their Easter Egger (EE) chickens Ameraucana because the hatcheries have purposely sold EE's as Ameraucanas as part of their marketing or perhaps they do not know the difference? I doubt that.

Anyway, the only way to get true Ameraucanas is to buy from a breeder of true ameraucanas. There is an ameraucana thread here and there is an ameraucana breeders organization at http://ameraucana.org

EE's often have green legs, can lay a variety of colors, look somewhat like Ameraucanas with their puffy cheeks. People say they are very friendly. However, they are most often a 'cross' They obviously have some ameraucana in there somewhere but do not fit the standard.

There are tons of people here who know tons more than me.

I am assuming that the Ameraucana's lay the bluer eggs as EE's are often more blue-green. Both are very pretty.

I have never been able to get a picture that actually shows the color. They look like turtlefeathers eggs but I when I take a picture, they look 10 times lighter. Maybe I just don't know how to use my camera well enough.

Actually Becky, even mine look a tad washed out in my picture. I think the only way to get a really TRUE photo of blue eggs is to do it outdoors in the sunlight against a light/white background - with no flash, of course.

I usually get light colored blue eggs..

Pretty chickens, pretty eggs!
I love the egg line up photo where we are looking down the light to a blue one in the browns. Very nice.

SilkieTime, I edited your picture to try to make the white plate look more white
and figured that would get the color balance better so the eggs looked more true to their blue
how do you think I did? They are very pretty eggs by the way.
