They make it more difficult, but you can see the end result. I am lazy and the duct tape I had on hand. They have not pecked at it.

I just use the red and white plastic hanging feeders sold in all feed stores. I hang them using old dog leashes hooked to the wire run ceiling using carabiners. I have them at the height of the chickens back, easily adjusted by tying knots in cloth leashes. Chain type I just hook higher on the carabiner. Also I have a 2ft apron of 1/2 inch hardware cloth around everything to keep out critters. Mice can get in I suppose. I also bring the feeders into my home at night. A bit more work but it works so far.

Also.... I have a 2 inch pvc feeder I used for chicks. I now use it for the Oyster shells. I DO NOT have it on the oysters and I may have to.

'Someone' saw a bug or something in there and billed out 1/2 the shells to get to it ! That doesn't happen often so I won't put the tape on that
