How do you effectively clean the loft out?

Two things I would also recommend besides how I clean my loft are:

1) Never fly a pigeon you are not willing to loose.

2) I employ two tarps. My floor of the loft can be covered with one such tarp. When that tarp becomes soiled I merely replace it with the second tarp. The soiled tarp once I have dump off all the loose manure I spread out on the ground in the sun to bake and dry. Then I use the back side of an iron garden rake to loosen any stubborn poop which I shake off into my compost bin. Lastly I house off the tarp and fold it up once it dries and store it ready for the next exchange. Large deposits off poop just peels off with ease when it becomes frozen in winter (I live in Canada no stranger to Arctic Conditions.) Makes spring clean up less of a chore.

3) The thing that work for me is I line my nest boxes (which were built with this in mind) with empty nylon mesh feed bag. In some cases they are folded and stapled (with easy removal a fore thought) to fit with a few irregular nest boxes. Then I employ a similar clean up system as my tarps.

Just curious,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I know you lost a few in the past few months on releases. Some returned, but I'm not sure I read of your numbers that didn't.:idunno. Of course the ever-present threat of hawks:hit
I would guess that squab will almost be a solid white in colour by my estimation.
Yes,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you are 110% correct.:thumbsup
Those were file pix of what I kept. I just used it to show off Juniors Handsome Looks:celebrate

Where do they all go to? Is it predators or do they just fly away?
My younger birds are falling prey to hawks who have zeroed in on my loft in the winter months. This year has been exceptionally bad. However good judgement is usually (in my case anyway) a result of bad judgment. I am now practicing not to free fly my birds during the winter months as much.

Winter back is now broken and with the arrival of spring food will soon become more available for all creatures. I have little fear that my flock will reach the 50 mark this year in a perfect world.
Barring some major catastrophe which I have rebounded from twice since getting back into homing pigeons.
