I tested it with my 250lb self.I worry about the roost support and heavy birds.. most of us have the roosts resting on supports .. it looks like yours are depending on screws to support them.

A tarp. I bet you could even take that out and hose it off... I was looking for a cheap flooring option for the coop. This might be my answer. Lay down a tarp and then cover it with bedding. Should protect the wood enough and I can just lift it out in the warmer months and hose it off while changing the bedding. It's high enough where chickens feel safe and I don't have to bend or reach up to clean board. My Hens and Rooster jump on drop board and hop up on roost. Each morning I take a rubber spatula and scoop droppings into a bucket. View attachment 1643953
Predator proof?I don't do a poop board. 1X2 welded wire under the roost. What poop doesn't fall through on its own gets brushed through with a deck brush every 2 or 3 weeks or so. Coop is a raised 5X5. Wire is 2X5.

So far, except for the occasional egg eating rat snake, but they get a pass. I just pick them up and put them in the woods or brush pile. Although we supposedly have weasels here, I've never seen one in my life. Rats/mice don't seem to be a problem at all (could be because of the rat snakes and my cat) and 'coons and possums just stroll by the coop/run according to my trail cam. I just don't seem to have the predator problems a lot of folks seem to have although I have lost a few birds to hawks, but that's the price of free ranging.Predator proof?
The goal was for up to 8 hens. We have 7 now and a local ordinance that states a max of 8. The roost will certainly fit 8 no problem. I needed to make capitalize on standing room for me or my wife. This shape allows us a little more room while still allowing plenty of room for the hens.I worry about the roost support and heavy birds.. most of us have the roosts resting on supports .. it looks like yours are depending on screws to support them.

'Hosing' stuff off can make for problems in the coop, best to keep things as bone dry as possible to avoid organism growth and odors.A tarp. I bet you could even take that out and hose it off... You've answered your own question!Anybody run wire under the roost and slide out poop boards under the wire like the floor of a bird cage. Thinking it would keep the chickens out of the poop and prevent them from dusting in the sand/PDZ I want to lay on the poop boards. Perhaps 1"x1" or 1"x2" wire is what I was thinking. Just wondering if it's worth the added effort and expense. If it's effective I think it would be, but if it requires extra scrapping always, it may just be counterproductive.
Do your bottom chickens get pooped on by the birds above them? There doesn’t appear to be much clearance, but it might just be the picture!I have never once seen a chicken facing anything but the wall. It’s quite funny!
