Yeah, but I'm a pretty bad builder - and I'm a girl!

Ok... so all these designs are awesome but how do you keep the pools clean!?!?
I had just one duck for a while and he trashed the kiddy pool (the ten dollar ones that are only maybe three feet in diameter), i had to clean it daily,
I want to put in a bigger pond-ish pool, perhaps like three by four or so, not huge just reasonable, but i don't know how to keep it clean, a pond filter seams like more issues then help, and costly
any suggestions?
tks

We have a small pond in our aviary and the wood ducks, mandarins, teals, and call ducks dirty it within a week. About every week we pump out the pond and add new water, easy as that....luckily we just run the dirty water down into our woods were it joins the creek.

I am glad I found this thread. Finally got my roomie to consider adding ducks next spring- and it was even HIS idea! I have wanted ducks for years.
My question is this: can they be trusted to free range during the day like my chickens? I would of course make them a secure place to sleep, but the idea of building a run big enough for them to live in full time when I have this perfectly good fenced pasture seems silly. The fence isn't too tall, but my chickens COULD get over it... they just don't. How likely are ducks to take off? Are there breeds that would do better free ranging than others? I have till spring to plan my duck habitat, but I am a total newbie when it comes to ducks. I want to gather as much info as possible.

I think you would be fine with two pairs of Mandarins or comparable small ducks with this size.

Dan

I am planning on building a 20x10 aviary in my back yard. Would that be enough room for 2 pairs of wood ducks and 2 pairs of pintails?

JUst found out wood duck loves Arrow head plant seed. In my pen, I am having a pond but then by it a bog area, where I can just
load them up with arrow heads as well as with duck week plants.
