Show Off, survivor of 11/2010 coop attack, (RIP Show Off 5/6/11)

I don't know what attacked the coop, I lost a lot of birds though. I think it was a pair of coyotes that another person said was up around their place several acres away and he shot at them to chase them away. I think they came my way. It was back in October.

After her valiant fight and recovery, I just lost Show Off to a hawk. My mom just called me because she heard the birds going nuts and ran over to my house, there was a hawk in the pen with Show Off and she was dead. I had left her out today for some warm sun and a good dirt bath. There was her little boy friend Luau in there with her and he's injured but it my mom said it looks like she died of fright because there wasn't a new mark on her.

It is absolutely heart breaking for me. She fought so hard and healed from the most horrible injuries ever, to lose to a hawk. She was fragile, so her heart probably stopped when the thing landed. It will go visit it's friends.

Oh I am so sorry. She must have gone into shock. I just came upon this thread and got attached to her by reading her story and seeing her pictures and i am sad to hear she died. I can imagine the loss is difficult. I know a special relationship develops when nursing a chicken back to health.

She has slept in my room with me since November, making her little clucking happy sounds. I will really miss that!

I just read the old fainting chicken thread about Nugget, too. So sad. Why can't all of our feathered or furred friends live long, long lives?

Despite the sadness with each loss, we know they bring us a lot of joy when they are with us. I hope little Luau heals up ok.

I think I'll go out and visit my chickens now.
