Show off your australorps!

Oh ok great!

The person who took them had been helping my next door neighbor put in a new irrigation system for his plants and trees, and my neighbor told the person helping them that liked the looks of my "big chickens" that I was giving away those 2 Splash Australorp young roosters. They said that they wanted them for breeding to their hens. I also gave them a copy of the genetic coloring chart for them, and that really got them excited!

In the meantime, I have now heard a first crow out of the Blue Australorp young Australorp rooster that I did keep from the same hatching as those 2 Splash ones that I just gave away. It sounds funny right now, but with practice he will get it right.

When I went out to feed, water, and collect eggs yesterday, I had to laugh. In the pen that my young Blue Australorp rooster is in, he was trying to breed with a Black Australorp hen in there, and one of the Blue hens chased him off the Black. He has been trying so hard with them. Anyways, just out of curiosity, I cracked open 2 of the eggs from that pen to check to see if he was managing to do anything. One of the eggs was fertile and one was not, so it shouldn't be much longer until all the girls start surrendering, I think.

I can't wait till my 16 week old australorp begins laying. I am not sure when she will lay though. Probably about 6 months.
