Show Off Your Biggest Thanksgiving Turkey!! (Graphic Pics)

View attachment 1968936 This was Choochie, he topped out at 70lbs; sadly he had an infection and had to be put down and we couldn’t eat him. His mate though was only slightly smaller, and when he went I chose to end her suffering, (due to a broken toe that would t heal), at the same time. So we did roast her, and she was delicious! Despite being 4yrs old, she was tender and juicy. I only did half at a time though, I could never have put her whole in the oven!
What breed was your's? 70lbs is impressive.

I dont think I have ever seen turkeys that big before unless I count my ex. I had a meat turkey for a while. She used to squat every time she seen me. I culled her for infection too. She was pet though. Only turkey I ever had.
Was it a heritage, or broad breasted Turkey you had?
Next year we're raising heritage verieties plus a few broad breasteds.

Yes Choochie was a pet too, but I always said we’d eat him when the time came, he was nice with me and I was sorry for the way things ended. He was a broad breasted bronze too, he was six and he just kept getting bigger! The last time I weighed him he was five and it was a real struggle, I had to get him in a laundry basket to do it and we were both pretty stressed - do you have any idea how hard it is to deadlift 70lbs of thrashing struggling turkey!?!

The only reason I got her was to try and get over my fear of turkeys. She was young and at a swap. $15.00 I figured was a good price. When I was young my mom took me to an uncles house where there was a turkey that looked much like yours here . We got out of the car and that thing straight up targeted me and scared me to death ! I remember running in circles around the his house w/ that tom on my heals while grown ups sat on the porch laughing hysterically. She was super sweet and gave me eggs. She even went broody once ! Hurt me to cull her but I had tried for a while to help her and I guess she got too heavy and it effected her legs.
