Gonna be a lot of leftovers this Thanksgiving.

This was Choochie, he topped out at 70lbs; sadly he had an infection and had to be put down and we couldn’t eat him. His mate though was only slightly smaller, and when he went I chose to end her suffering, (due to a broken toe that would t heal), at the same time. So we did roast her, and she was delicious! Despite being 4yrs old, she was tender and juicy. I only did half at a time though, I could never have put her whole in the oven!

what kind are they ? They resemble the wild turkeys here.

Narragansett. They do look like wild guys. Here's my big, beautiful tom who is not for eating. He's a few years old.

He was 42lbs dead weight after butchering. He must've been around 50-45 pounds before butchering.

You did a good job cleaning him.

My dad does the gutting, I help with the plucking. He took 2 1/2 hours to pluck because he didn't fit in the pot of hot water.

Yes Choochie was a pet too, but I always said we’d eat him when the time came, he was nice with me and I was sorry for the way things ended. He was a broad breasted bronze too, he was six and he just kept getting bigger! The last time I weighed him he was five and it was a real struggle, I had to get him in a laundry basket to do it and we were both pretty stressed - do you have any idea how hard it is to deadlift 70lbs of thrashing struggling turkey!?!
